At Hearst Connecticut Media Group, our journalists bring vital local news to life, covering Fairfield and New Haven counties with gusto. Our team delivers stories across a spectrum of platforms including websites, apps, newsletters, and social media, serving nine daily and 20 weekly newspapers.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking an enterprising, audience-focused, and collaborative local news reporter to join us! As we expand our coverage and grow digital subscriptions, you will report for the Connecticut Post, covering various communities in the greater Bridgeport, CT area. Your responsibilities will include covering local issues, attending meetings, conducting enterprise reporting, and handling some general assignments.
Your Role:
- Collaborative Storytelling: Team up with editors, reporters, photographers, and audience specialists to produce impactful stories that keep local subscribers engaged.
- Quick and In-Depth Reporting: Swiftly break news online and follow up with detailed enterprise stories.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Analyze metrics to guide real-time and long-term coverage strategies.
- Multimedia Skills: Capture and edit photos and videos, live tweet, and go live on Facebook for major breaking news.
Qualifications to Join Our Team:
- Proven experience in journalism at a newspaper, news site, or local publication.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
- Success in deadline-driven environments, excelling in multitasking.
- Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills.
- Bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish) are a plus.
- Must-have: Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Prior writing clips to share with our hiring manager.
