In your internship at a globally leading medical technology company, you’ll be right in the middle of the action: We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic student to join our R&D team focusing on software development for advanced navigation in orthopaedic surgery. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a cutting-edge solution for computer-assisted surgery that can have a significant impact on patient outcomes.

Our offer to you:

  • Take an active, hands-on role in the development of SW features and solutions that directly impact patient outcomes.

  • Engage in complex problem-solving tasks, systematically identify challenges, and brainstorm innovative solutions.

  • Design, develop, and implement software components using C++ and Qt on a Linux platform.

  • Collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, biomedical specialists, and domain experts.

  • Evaluate the performance of developed algorithms using appropriate metrics.

  • Document and present findings, designs, and results.

That makes you stand out:

  • You are currently enrolled in a master's program in computer science, biomedical engineering or a related field.

  • You have experience in object-oriented programming (C++/Java, etc.) and a strong interest in developing high-performance software.

  • You have a background in computer vision, image processing and/or machine learning.

  • You demonstrate a strong interest in medical technology and healthcare software.

  • Familiarity with medical imaging (CT, MRI) and segmentation techniques is a plus.

  • You have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • You have good communication and documentation skills in English.

Duration of your internship: 6 months (full-time)

Type of internship: We offer voluntary internships alongside your studies, compulsory internships/practical semesters, and a combination of both

When you start with us: September or October 2026

Where you will work: Freiburg (Breisgau)

What you can expect: Fair pay, holiday entitlement, exciting training and personal mentoring, and flexible working hours.

Diversity is important to us. We welcome applications from people regardless of their ethnic, national or social origin, gender, disability, age or sexual identity.

We’re excited to receive your application! Please include all relevant documents (cover letter, CV, and transcript of records) and upload them directly under the “CV” section of the application form.

If your application is successful, we will first conduct a short telephone interview with our University Talent Acquisition Team. If everything fits, this will be followed by a one-hour video interview with the department. We will then get back to you with final feedback.

Pay rate will not be below any applicable local minimum wage rates.
