Motive Power applications include industrial lift trucks and pallet jacks, rail equipment, mining equipment, and airline ground support equipment. Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Sourcing, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will administer all commercial activities associated with their assigned material categories (commodities), in a cost-effective, high-quality and timely manner to ensure optimum bottom line results using honest, fair and ethical business practices. These commercial activities include, but are not limited to, monitoring price indices and market intelligence reports, contractual and/or pricing negotiations, periodic in-person supplier reviews, cost reduction exercises and total cost of ownership calculations. This position interfaces with many other groups within the organization and as such, requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and foster fair and equitable relationships with suppliers of assigned material categories to ensure attainment of organizational goals and objectives
  • Analyze market trends and pricing indices to proactively negotiate and maintain favorable pricing for assigned material categories
  • Identify and report potential supply chain issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply and support manufacturing forecasts and demands
  • On a regular, periodic basis review performance KPIs with key suppliers
  • Aggressively purse cost saving opportunities resulting from alternative materials, processes and technological advancements
  • Collect, compile and present market data to advise of potential problem areas and suggest corrective actions
  • Collect, compile and present purchasing data based on internal purchasing activities
  • Provide advice and guidance relating to assigned material categories
  • Monthly reporting activities to include, but not limited to, preparation of activity reports, analysis of purchase price variances, cost improvement projects and spend activity
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment when dealing with critical and confidential organizational matters
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Educational and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, purchasing or engineering
Minimum of two years of experience in a procurement or related profession  
Knowledge or awareness of battery technologies and/or battery manufacturing a plus

Language Skills
Ability to read, write and understand English required
Multilingual abilities a plus

Computer Skills
MS Office Suite skillset, with emphasis on Excel prowess
Familiarity with ERP systems (BaaN, SAP, Oracle, etc.) a plus

Interpersonal Skills
Ability to communicate and interact with internal customers
Ability to cooperate and connect with others in different situations to achieve favorable outcomes 

Reasoning Ability
Able to assess things rationally by applying logic based on new or existing information when making a decision or solving a problem
Weigh the benefits and disadvantages of multiple courses of action before choosing one and be able to provide supporting arguments for that decision

Travel Required: Moderate travel will be required (30%) with some of this travel being international.
