Producer, Sports - Reuters
Reuters is seeking a dynamic Sports Producer with outstanding knowledge of international sport and sports rights as well as excellent written and spoken English, ready to thrive in a fast-paced global newsroom. You will operate as a visuals journalist, working with text and pictures as part of a global sports unit delivering content to digital and broadcast clients worldwide.
Our goal is to produce distinctive, authoritative sports coverage — from video highlights and heavyweight reporting at the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cups to major championships across summer and winter sport. You will respond quickly and confidently to major breaking news, with live coverage in mind, and deliver compelling visual scoops.
You will help shape the editorial agenda, navigate sports rights, and produce high quality, engaging edits and packages to ensure we deliver the strongest possible content across all platforms.
We operate as one newsroom - a fully integrated global operation where text, video, pictures, graphics and digital teams collaborate in real time. When news breaks, we move together. When sporting history is made, we tell it across every format. Flexibility across platforms is essential.
This is a full-time role requiring flexibility and commitment, working within a 24/7 rotating shift system aligned to the rhythm of global sport — including weekends, afternoons and evenings.
About the Role
As a Reuters Sports Producer, you will:
- Break news and deliver fast, accurate, compelling sports stories for a global audience.
- Provide top quality edits for broadcast and digital platforms - from quick-turn match highlights to press conference, interviews and file pieces.
- Write good and accurate scripts under deadline pressure.
- Drive the team's success and make a significant impact on our projects.
- Work closely with sports reporters, picture editors and graphics teams to shape integrated, multi-platform coverage.
- Work in the field and contribute ideas that travel across formats.
- Keep a close eye on usage data and client requests, understanding how our clients’ needs are evolving.
- Assist with planning for major events.
- Set the daily sports agenda and work closely with production hubs around the world.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Producer, Sports if you have:
- Fluent command of English (additional languages, particularly Spanish, are a strong advantage).
- Deep knowledge of global sport and sports rights.
- Solid sports industry contacts
- The ability to work under pressure and to drive speed and accuracy.
- Good video editing and script writing skills in a breaking news environment.
- Confidence working across formats — including reporting, writing and collaborating with picture desks.
- The ability to remain calm, decisive, and collaborative under pressure.
- The ability to quickly and proactively source UGC and other third-party content, especially for breaking news.
- Experience in a multimedia newsroom environment (highly desirable).
- A commitment to the Reuters Trust Principles: independence, integrity and freedom from bias.
- A desire to contribute to a diverse, global team united by a shared mission.
- Solid filming skills are a strong advantage.
