Our employees are not only part of history, they’re making history. Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic to join its Flight Test team. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.
Primary Function:
Plan, perform and coordinate all operation, modifications, inspections, maintenance and servicing of aircraft and ground support equipment. Improvise tooling and methods as required to complete job. Certify all required work. Keep abreast of and assure compliance with all applicable federal government and civilian regulations and the like pertaining to the maintenance and modification of aircraft.

PERFORM WORK OF EQUAL OR LOWER SKILL LEVEL AS REQUIRED.

Coordinate all operations necessary to perform the complete inspection, maintenance, modification and servicing of aircraft and ground support equipment. Work from such information as applicable maintenance manuals, technical directives, drawings, process specifications and oral and/or written instructions. Requires a thorough knowledge of the complete aircraft including aircraft structures, components, power plants and mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems and the interrelationships of the various systems. Certify all required work.

Schedule various operations to be performed and coordinate the performance of all operations to insure their completion according to master schedule. Follow all phases of schedule commitments and maintain current status of aircraft at all times. Prepare status reports as necessary. Notify supervision of schedule delays and problems encountered and make recommendations to resolve such situations. Answer numerous inquiries concerning the status of and coordinate the performance of various tests as necessary.

Assist supervision in determining ground support equipment, spare parts and other necessary equipment necessary to support aircraft. Devise and improvise necessary special tooling and equipment which are required to maintain aircraft.

Discuss functional requirements, problems with systems, components and material utilized on aircraft with supervision, to resolve problems concerning modifications and maintenance to be performed. Check to ensure that all test equipment used is calibrated according to schedule.

Keep abreast of and assure compliance with all applicable federal government and civilian regulations and the like pertaining to the maintenance and modification of aircraft.

Provide continuous training to aircrews in the use and care of aircrew life support and training or egress systems and/or associated life support equipment for nonrelated personnel prior to participating in flying activities on ground engine/systems operation.

Maintain accurate records of all actions taken or required on the aircraft in accordance with all FAA and military regulations. Perform inventory of all aircraft records and check records ensure that aircraft is current. Prepare reports on items to be accomplished on aircraft. Furnish personnel on floor with necessary logs, regulations, inspection cards and the like. Prepare various periodic and special examination reports as required by company and government directives. Order and maintain all publications applicable to various aircraft.

Maintain work area, hangar, ramp, shops and ground support equipment in a clean and orderly fashion. Perform other miscellaneous duties which may fall within the scope of this position.
This is a SEA Union represented position.
This is a 1st shift position.
Basic Qualifications
:
High school graduate or the equivalent. Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Power Plant Certificate required.
Four (4) years experience as an aircraft mechanic in the military, industrial or commercial aviation field. Must be current in the aviation field within the previous 24 months and have exercised the “FULL” extent of the A&P license. Three (3) years turbine engine experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience performing major aircraft modifications and major structural repairs.

Proficient with sheet metal and composite fabrication, assembly, modification and repair for aircraft and aircraft components.

Ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings.

Ability to work in a collaborative environment with other FAA A&P Mechanics, Inspectors, Test Pilots, and Engineers to maintain and modify a fleet of research & development aircraft.

Proficient with operating typical sheet metal fabrication tools including hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shear, Roller, Punch, Close Tolerance Drilling Operations, and familiarity with aircraft fastening systems
