About the company

Microsoft Corporation

We believe that more diverse teams create greater innovations with more diverse approaches, questions and ideas. With this belief in mind, we strive to be a leader in attracting women to careers in high tech. Inside the company, and in partnership with others, Microsoft is involved in a wide range of programs aimed at trying to attract, recruit, retain, and develop women from around the world in the field of computer technology.

We start early in the pipeline by sparking girls’ interest in technology careers. We promote the study of computer science at traditionally female colleges and other universities. We invest in women-focused organizations, seek out women-owned suppliers, and provide support to women once they are employees at Microsoft.

  • Women@Microsoft currently reaches over 20K people worldwide through locally led women's employee networks.
  • Over 3000 women participated locally in The Global Women's Conference with 800 participating via global hubs in 32 worldwide locations.
  • Girls represented 52% of the total beneficiaries of YouthSpark.

The Women at Microsoft ERG is involved with a number of career related initiatives:

  • Diversity initiatives. We partner with Microsoft's executive leadership teams to influence the corporate diversity strategy and to implement corporate diversity initiatives companywide, such as Women's History Month celebration.
  • Employee development. The Microsoft Women's Professional Development Series hosts employee development focused speakers, networking events, global webcasts, and a bi-annual women's leadership and development conference for Microsoft employees from around the world. The multiday conference features speeches and breakout sessions focused on leadership as well as career, professional, and personal skills development.
  • Information sharing and connection. Women at Microsoft ERG manages a number of distribution lists and internal web sites for Microsoft employees to help women share information and build connections across organizations and geographical locations.

Women at Microsoft work with the community in several ways:

  • DigiGirlz Day - Members of Women at Microsoft volunteer with Microsoft’s DigiGirlz program, a program designed to introduce girls to the career opportunities available in technology fields. These events occur at Microsoft offices around the world.
  • WiRL Leadership Summit Sponsorship- Women at Microsoft sponsored 10 women to attend the WiRL Leadership Summit. Its webinar format makes it convenient for many professionals.
  • Sit With Me – Women at Microsoft partnered with SitWithMe.org to recognize the important role women play in creating future technology.
  • One Billion Rising – Women throughout Microsoft participated in group dances to mobilize, engage, awaken and join people worldwide to end violence against women
  • Recruiting events to encourage young women to become interested in STEM and to encourage corporate women to work at Microsoft.
  • Ongoing partnerships with national organizations, such as the Anita Borg Institute, National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), and MentorNet.
