DESCRIPTION
This role focuses on developing secure embedded solutions for Cummins automotive products, including service tools and in-vehicle modules, to meet cybersecurity needs. This role encompasses cybersecurity risk assessment, penetration testing, system validation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to create robust automotive security systems. The role requires proficiency in embedded systems, communication protocols, and vulnerability analysis to ensure the highest standards in cybersecurity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation: Develop and implement cybersecurity solutions for automotive service tools and in-vehicle modules, creating proofs-of-concept to validate designs.
- Risk Assessment and Threat Analysis: Conduct risk assessments and analyze threats to automotive systems, identifying vulnerabilities and security gaps.
- Penetration Testing: Execute penetration testing and vulnerability assessments to uncover potential security threats.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with software developers, system engineers, and quality assurance teams to integrate and enhance security measures.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of security requirements, designs, and test results, ensuring accessibility for future reference.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in automotive cybersecurity, applying new knowledge to enhance Cummins security protocols and practices.
Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate efforts with technicians or temporary student employees as required, with no direct management responsibilities.
- Problem Resolution: Engage in problem-solving for electronic application and system issues, with progressive involvement in managing complex technical challenges as experience is gained.
- Customer Interaction: Collect input from customers and other stakeholders to inform quality product decisions.
- Product Life Maintenance: Apply simulation, calibration, and product maintenance tools, ensuring optimized system performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge/Skills
- Automotive Security Knowledge: Strong understanding of automotive cybersecurity, communication protocols (UDS/CAN, J1939, LIN, Ethernet), and domain security concepts.
- Embedded Systems Proficiency: Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
- Security Standards and Compliance: Familiarity with ISO 21434, AIS 189/190, and other automotive cybersecurity regulations.
- Product and System Modeling: Knowledge of system requirements engineering, product verification, and validation management, as well as modeling and simulation for automotive cybersecurity.
- Technical Documentation: Capability in creating detailed technical documentation to aid productivity and knowledge transfer.
Experience
- Minimum: 3-5 years in automotive cybersecurity or embedded systems security, ideally with experience at automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
- Preferred: Hands-on experience with cybersecurity assessments, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and experience with V-model and sprint work models.
