Position Overview

As we transition from a world of files to that of products powered by cloud data services, we’re building our core underlying cloud fabric and kernel that is comprised of massively scalable, always-on, globally deployed cloud services that underpin our customer facing systems. In order to provide a seamless cloud data experience for our customers we’re building a platform that bridges existing products and solutions with our cloud data platform.

We are seeking a highly proficient Sr. Principal software engineer to partner in building our data interoperability platform. The successful candidate should have a strong sense of ownership and possess multiple past experiences of driving projects through completion. They should be well versed in building customer-facing products, scalable cloud-based solutions, and developer-centric APIs and components.

Responsibilities:

• Define and evangelize technical vision across the division, shaping the future of making things through architectural standards, technology roadmaps, and strategic direction

• Own end-to-end architecture for mission-critical systems and platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with long-term business objectives

• Drive organizational technical strategy by collaborating with senior leadership, product management, and cross-functional executives to translate business goals into technical initiatives

• Lead and influence technical decision-making across multiple teams and domains, establishing architectural patterns and best practices that scale across the organization

• Build and nurture strategic partnerships with platform teams, external partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment and leverage of shared capabilities

• Champion engineering excellence by defining quality standards, establishing technical governance, and driving adoption of best practices organization-wide

• Deliver hands-on technical leadership for complex, high-impact systems that perform at scale, while balancing strategic responsibilities with execution

• Write exemplary code that sets the standard for quality, testing, readability, and maintainability across the organization

• Lead technical due diligence for build vs. buy decisions, technology adoption, and critical architectural reviews

• Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies, evaluating their applicability, and leading proof-of-concept initiatives that create competitive advantage

• Mentor and grow senior engineers including other Principals, fostering technical leadership capabilities across the organization

• Represent Autodesk externally at conferences, standards bodies, and industry forums as a recognized technical authority

• Participate in and help define on-call escalation processes for production systems, ensuring organizational resilience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Exceptional collaborator and technical leader with 12+ years of total industry experience

• 10+ years of software development with demonstrated expertise across the full product development lifecycle

• Expert-level understanding of concurrent programming, multi-threading, distributed systems, and performance optimization for large-scale data processing

• Proven track record of designing and evolving APIs and platform capabilities consumed by multiple teams and external partners

• Strong experience with build automation, CI/CD pipelines, and developer experience optimization at scale

• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across organizational boundaries without direct authority

• Track record of delivering high-impact technical initiatives that measurably improved business outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep experience architecting solutions on AWS or other major cloud platforms at enterprise scale

• Experience building high-performance services or systems in languages such as C#, Java, or C++

• Domain expertise in CAD, 3D/2D Geometry, computational geometry, or graphics programming

• Experience building software for AEC and Manufacturing industries with understanding of industry-specific challenges and workflows

• Track record of leading community-driven libraries, SDKs, open-source projects, or developer platforms with external adoption

• Experience influencing industry standards or contributing to technical communities beyond the organization

• Prior experience mentoring Principal-level engineers or leading technical guilds/communities of practice
