Meet The Speakers

Monique Herena
Monique Herena
Chief Colleague Experience Officer (she/her)

As Chief Colleague Experience Officer, Monique is responsible for all aspects of the colleague experience, including talent management, talent acquisition, leadership development, colleague servicing, compensation, and total well-being. Monique leads all colleague experience functions globally. As part of the Executive Committee, Monique works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee to build a culture that attracts, retains, and develops the best colleagues. She also serves as an officer of the American Express National Bank.

Monique joined American Express from BNY Mellon, where she was Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Senior Executive Vice President, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications since 2014. She worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer and senior management team to lead the development and execution of a business and culture transformation strategy that has made the bank more competitive in the market for talent. Prior to BNY Mellon, Monique was at PepsiCo for 13 years where she served in a number of increasingly senior HR leadership roles, including assignments in Dubai and Chicago, as well as in their Purchase, NY headquarters.

Monique lives in Scarsdale, NY with her husband Louis. They are proud parents of Matthew, Michael and Mia and their French Bulldog, Stella.

Elena Varan

Vice President, Engineering, Technology (she/her)

Elena is Vice President, Platform and Operations Engineering in the DDIM (Digital, Data, Intelligence and Marketing) Technology team. She leads the engineering teams for Global Email Marketing and Enterprise Inbound Communications, enterprise capabilities enabling marketing campaigns delivery and several servicing journeys for our customers. Elena is also leading the SRE team and function for Enterprise Communications and Ask Amex Chat platforms focusing on high systems availability, resilience and performance. She is the Technology Risk and Compliance Champion for DDIM.

Elena started working for American Express Technologies in 2005, joining us as a Tech Consultant in our Toronto office. She led the engineering teams supporting the International Servicing and Value Generation Portals, primarily focusing on initiatives in support of Asia/Pacific region. Elena joined AmEx as a colleague in 2012, leading the engineering team in charge of Workforce and Performance Management applications for our CCPs. Since 2016, Elena has been an Engineering Director on the Enterprise Communications and Customer Intelligence Platforms. During this time, she led the Credit Communications engineering team to the success of our Financial Relief Program which was awarded the “Edward P. Gilligan” award for Innovation in 2021.

Kavita Gupta

Vice President, Digital Product Management, Enterprise Data Governance & Platforms (she/her)

Kavita Gupta is Vice President in Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions organization. In her current role, Kavita leads product strategy, delivery and adoption roadmap for our big data platform modernization, leading enterprise charters like next gen big data transformation to public cloud, decommissioning legacy platforms and developing real time capabilities to advance digitization and personalization that power our vision to drive best customer experience.

Kavita started her career at Amex Gurgaon (India) as a Management Trainee from campus, and over the last 16 years has chartered her career in variety of functions within Information Management and Product Management driving marketing analytics and loyalty & benefits strategy for consumer and small business portfolios. Known for her ability to drive results on complex matrixed projects through collaboration and by bringing others along, she strongly believes leadership at work is more than just driving results, but a means to pay it forward and invest in colleagues to build leaders for future. Kavita is also a program lead for EDDS DEI pillar and is passionate about supporting the Amex Blue box values of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Stephen Rochford

Chief of Staff, CFR Executive Office (he/him)

Stephen Rochford currently works as the Chief of Staff for the Credit & Fraud Risk organization. In this role, he leads personnel strategy for +2k employees globally and is responsible for the fiscal management of $300M+ in annual investments. Previously at American Express, Stephen has held positions of increasing responsibility across risk management, data science, and product management verticals. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Molloy University and Master’s degree in Applied Analytics from Columbia University.

Katie Sibson

Acting Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Center of Excellence (she/her)

Katie is currently the end to end project lead on establishing Risk’s Decision Science Center of Excellence in Singapore. She is partnering across the company with recruiting, mobility, tax, operational risk and modeling teams to build a best in class talent center for the risk organization. Katie started at American Express 12 years ago in the Strategic Planning Group.

Prior to SPG, she has held a range of strategic leadership roles. She served as Chief of Staff in the CFR Executive Office, enabled the launch of Business Checking account as a Chief Credit Officer in Commercial Payments, managed negotiations with merchants, and drove Agile Change Management throughout Risk. Prior to American Express, Katie worked as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company. There she focused on designing and implementing Human Capital initiatives, such as long-range talent planning, organizational restructuring, compensation reform and firm wide change management.

She holds an MBA Human Resources Management and Finance from The Wharton School, and an undergrad degree in Accounting and Finance from Georgetown University.

Jingnan Xiao

Acting Vice President, Global Consumer New Account Decision Science (she/her)

Jingnan Xiao is Acting Vice President of Global Consumer New Account Decision Science at American Express. Prior to this role, Jingnan was Director of US Consumer New Account Decision Science.

Jingnan has 6 years experience in American Express and 10+ years experience in the industry. She started her journey in Amex from the regulatory modeling team where she partnered with the Controllership and Finance teams to successfully launch the CECL framework which forecasts expected credit loss for Global Consumer and Commercial card portfolios and provide strong support to the quarterly quantification of credit reserves. Jingnan transitioned into US Consumer New Account Decision Science team in June 2021. Since then, she has led the team to develop new generations of ADSS models, partnered with strategy team to launch key new account initiatives and conducted R&Ds for new modeling techniques and data science.

Prior to American Express, Jingnan worked in Santander Bank and DIA Associate. She received her Executive MBA degree from Columbia University and currently lives in Jersey City, NJ.
