If your supervisor is trying to push you toward a management role, but you have zero interest (prefer to remain IC), and have tried (subtly) to indicate this, should you “suck it up” and go that route, hoping for the best, or keep pushing back a little leas subtly? I have been in my field for 20 years. Management seems to be perceived as “everyone’s” goal, but it’s never been mine. My company even has both tracks, but I think my boss either thinks she “knows better” (despite being younger with less experience than me) or it’s because it will help her own goals (which she kind of implied). Navigating this feels, ironicallly, like a reason I’m considering leaving the company, although supervisor probably thinks I’d be/should be “thrilled” to be “promoted” this way.
