About ESG Controllers Team at Citi
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Controller team is function within the Finance division and is responsible for the strategic oversight, execution approach, preparation, analysis, senior governance and ultimate submission of external ESG disclosures for Citigroup globally such as EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive ‘CSRD’, EU Taxonomy, California new climate disclosure rules (SB 253 and SB 261), evolving ISSB reporting requirements, among others.
Our global scope demands close collaboration with key partners, including the Sustainability & ESG office, Risk Management, Business Divisions, Finance Controllers, and other functions, ensuring timely, accurate, and rigorously governed ESG disclosures.
About the Role
As an ESG Controller Senior Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in comprehensively assessing and identifying all new and revised disclosure obligations, conducting thorough gap analyses, and subsequently designing and overseeing the remediation of any net new gaps identified in our sustainability reporting practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, regulatory interpretation expertise, and a pragmatic approach to implementing compliance solutions.

This position reports to the Report Production Lead and provides a platform to engage with diverse stakeholders across Citi.
Responsibilities
Disclosure requirements Interpretation and Integration: Act as the subject matter expert, interpret mandatory disclosure requirements under global ESG/ sustainability related standards.
Develop a comprehensive Materiality Assessment Framework: Design and architect a robust Materiality Assessment framework that aligns seamlessly with the requirements of the amended ESRS.
Maintain the DR Inventory: Define, update, and manage the disclosure requirement (DR) inventory, including ownership of each DR and data point.
Assess DR Applicability: Review and confirm the applicability of DRs for the current reporting year, including application of omission methodologies.
Develop and Refine Reporting Processes: Develop and maintain efficient ESG reporting templates and processes.
Prepare Report Drafts: Create preliminary report drafts and update with inputs from Information Providers and prepare for final submission.
Continuous Monitoring: Establish mechanisms for ongoing monitoring of compliance effectiveness and identify potential new gaps arising from future regulatory updates or evolving business practices.
Assurance Readiness: Prepare documentation and evidence to support internal and external audits and assurance activities related to sustainability related compliance and gap remediation.
Benchmarking: Research and analyze best practices in sustainability related disclosures, gap remediation, and so on.
Collaborate with Leads on Key Activities: Support leads in the following:
Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of ESG disclosures through standardized and controlled processes.
Developing and implementing disclosure controls and procedures for ESG disclosures.
Managing the collection of attestations.
Enhancing report design, branding, and visual elements (e.g., infographics).
Engaging with and coordinating external assurance providers.
Coordinating internal audits and external reviews.
Preparing final reports for approval by relevant governance bodies.
Contributing to other essential tasks as needed.
Skills

Proven ability to design, implement, and optimize financial controls; define and execute robust financial reporting; and an eye digitization/automation of manual processes to enhance controls and compliance drive efficiency through automation and digitization initiatives.
Good understanding of ESG regulatory requirements, and global sustainability standards.
Strong understanding of Banking/ FIs relevant reporting requirements. Assurance/ Audit experience preferred.
Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to dissect complex regulatory language and identify practical implications.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing compliance challenges.
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
High attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring meticulous gap identification and remediation.
Superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex regulatory concepts to diverse audiences.
Ability to influence stakeholders and drive consensus on remediation strategies.
Proficiency in using data analysis tools (e.g., Excel) and familiarity with ESG reporting software.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment.
Qualification
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Law, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Professional certifications in ESG, auditing, or compliance are highly desirable.
Certifications such as (preferred, not essential):
Sustainable Investing Certificate, CFA
ESG reporting and assurance fundamentals, AICPA & CIMA
Sustainability and Climate Risk Certificate, GARP
7+ years of relevant experience
