POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Facilities Maintenance Technician is to provide assistance in performing preventative and on-going maintenance of the facility mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation while maximizing system up time. This role provides critical support to the facilities maintenance and engineering department by either performing or supporting both routine and emergency maintenance procedures on the facility and grounds as required. The position also supports in delivery of the responsibilities of the Lead Facilities Maintenance Coordinators, during absences.
HOURS/SCHEDULE
8 hour Day Shift, Tuesday - Saturday, with the ability to flex as needed
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completion of daily inspections, maintenance, and ticket completion for facility systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Record temperature & meter readings, coordinate maintenance of facility physical systems, equipment and fixtures in conjunction to Lead Facilities Maintenance Coordinator(s) and subcontractors.
- Emergency response to system failures & efficiently implement corrective action; review & provide schedule input.
- Installation & repair of laboratory equipment & support systems as needed.
- Maintain clean and orderly work area.
- Help coordinate work of contract vendors (subcontractors).
- Support maintenance of external facility grounds, including monthly inspections.
- Conduct and support special projects as assigned by Facility Maintenance and Engineering Manager or Lead Facilities Maintenance Coordinator(s).
- Perform functions as back-up to facility maintenance and engineering staff during absences.
- Function as key emergency response team member for all physical systems & fixtures, and maintain current training in emergency chemical spill response and clean-up per HAZWOPPER requirements.
- Assist Safety Office as needed and back-up in absence for functions including hazardous waste collection, disposal & documentation, accident response, PPE control, and related functions.
- Assist Safety Officer with weekly inspections of safety showers & eye wash stations, and monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and emergency exit alarms.
- Assure compliance with all NQAC safety policies & requirements for maintaining a work environment that that promotes safety practices, awareness and compliance.
- Maintain current awareness as technical resource of system technology & functions.
- Provide input to facility engineering and maintenance staff on evaluation of specific issues & corrective actions as needed.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School degree required. Associate degree, certification, or coursework in an engineering discipline preferred.
- Relevant maintenance equipment & system licenses and certifications preferred.
- Proven ability to self-manage, drive results, and proactively execute.
- One to two years of experience in facilities maintenance preferred.
- Experience within a facility laboratory/manufacturing environment preferred.
- Understanding or demonstrated experience maintaining large/advanced mechanical systems preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD a plus.
- Technical capability, relevant to PC, equipment, instrumentation, mechanics preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory facility & operational systems, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, electrical systems, deionized water, air, nitrogen, vacuum and compressed gas systems preferred.
- Understanding of facility operations to assure facility systems are operational to achieve optimal customer support requirements preferred.
- Availability for occasional 24/7 emergency coverage required.
