Job Purpose
Plans and coordinates activities concerned with installing equipment, investigating and resolving customer reports of technical problems with equipment, and eliminating future operational or service difficulties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Building Batteries
- Installed cables on new batteries including accessories
- Outside service if required- Travels to customer sites to evaluate, diagnose, and repair customer’s equipment including washes, cleans, and neutralizes customers’ batteries at customers’ location. Ability to perform discharge tests, evaluates results, and makes necessary repairs.
- Assists with the installation and/or removal of motive power batteries.
- Removes and disassembles cells and inspects parts to detect defects.
- Replaces defective parts, reassembles battery, and fuses lead parts with gas torch
- Adds acid or water to obtain specified concentration
- Diagnoses and repairs batteries, reads meters and adjusts charge parameters to control time and flow of current through battery.
- Installs, provides preventive maintenance, and repairs to batteries
- Operates material handling equipment per OSHA requirements.
- Performs inspections and analyzes findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action
- Pack batteries and chargers for customer orders
- Maintains records of performance reports
- Maintains a safe, orderly and clean working environment- clean warehouse in service area at the end of the day.
- Match and stock received parts & cells from Nationals Parts Center in accordance with packing slip labels
- Arrange and pack cells/parts for all customers and Service Technicians
- Replenish parts orders as required for locations across Canada
- Backup to shipper/receiver as needed basis
- Other duties may be assigned by your Manager.
- Follows all company policies and procedures as listed, but not limited to: warranty, safety, environmental, OSHA, DOT Hazmat, and ISO9000.
*Occasional travel to Customers’ site for item drop-off.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Two years’ industry-related experience; or equivalent combination of technical education and industry experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write, speak in English. Ability to analyzes, interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions which lead to proper customer solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must complete Enersys Canada Inc. Service Representative Training Course within 6 to 12 months. Must have forklift training- counterbalance and reach.
Driving Ability: Ability to operate various company vehicles types in a safe and competent manner. Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Must be at least 25 years of age to drive a company vehicle.
Other Skills and Abilities: Team player. Excellent organizational skills. Highly professional.
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Overnight travel will be necessary for training opportunities, company meetings, customer service calls and other circumstances as dictated by the supervisor.
General Job Requirements
- This position requires you to drive a company vehicle. Therefore, you must be able to pass the company’s driving requirements. Certain vehicles may also require a specific drivers license and have additional driving requirements.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
- Must be able and willing to be on-call.
- Risk of electrical shock.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
