Introduction to team
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer III engineer to join our Pricing team. We own Expedia’s prices for all our travel – hotels, cars, activities, flights, and more. We delight our Travelers with great prices for anything they wish, with a secure and personalized experience that drives customer satisfaction. We own the ingestion, computation, storage, publishing and error detection of 1+ trillion yearly prices and serve as the company’s data authority for machine learning decisions. Our Pricing platform supports millions of daily Travelers in finding suitable travel products as quickly as possible, using Java, Scala, Kotlin, DynamoDB and Redis.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and evolve complex, highly available software services and systems, including clear low-level designs (LLD), well-structured APIs, and robust data models that support scalable, maintainable solutions.
Lead end-to-end implementation of features and services across the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and coding to testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing operational support.
Make high-quality technical decisions for your services and adjacent systems, driving trade-off discussions, simplifying architectures, and ensuring performance, reliability, security, and cost effectiveness.
Collaborate closely with partner teams, product managers, and other engineers to translate ambiguous business and customer problems into technical solutions that work across multiple domains and platforms.
Champion engineering best practices including code quality, automated testing, observability, continuous delivery, and incident response, and mentor other engineers in adopting these practices.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
5+ years of relevant professional experience.
Proven experience designing and implementing system architecture, including low-level design, API design, and data modeling for scalable, distributed or service‑oriented systems.
Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and core computer science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and distributed systems concepts.
Demonstrated ownership for the health, performance, and reliability of services you build, including participating in code reviews, on-call rotations, and incident analysis within your team or domain.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience owning the technical direction of complex services or subsystems, including leading design reviews, setting coding and design standards, and guiding architectural evolution within a team or domain.
Track record of improving system performance, resilience, observability, or cost efficiency at scale through data‑driven analysis, experimentation, and iterative optimization.
Hands‑on experience designing and integrating APIs and data models that are reused across multiple services or domains, with attention to backward compatibility, versioning, and long‑term maintainability.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows, including safely integrating AI/ML‑enabled capabilities into production services and monitoring their behavior, performance, and risk profiles.
Experience applying AI/ML or recommendation technologies to enhance user experiences or operational workflows in large-scale systems, such as ranking, personalization, or intelligent automation, including contributing to the design of AI-powered components within your services.
