Senior Associate Editor, Practical Law Global

We are seeking a Senior Associate Editor to join the Practical Law Global team in the UK.

Practical Law is a leading online know-how service providing rigorous, peer-reviewed resources, including practice notes, current awareness and standard documents to help legal professionals work more efficiently and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media. 

About the Role

In this opportunity as a Senior Associate Editor in Practical Law, you will contribute to the expansion of Practical Law’s global content offering and help interpret and explain legal, practice and market developments to our customers. A key focus of this role will be assisting with the project management of Practical Law’s content expansion into France, Germany and other European markets, working closely with colleagues across jurisdictions to coordinate inputs, manage timelines and ensure the delivery of high‑quality, market‑relevant content.

You will also play an important part in leveraging AI and technology tools to improve content, project coordination, enhance workflow efficiency and support innovation across the editorial process.


Working in a supportive team of colleagues, you will:

  • Assist with the building coordination, and project management of new Europe content, by liaising with colleagues from across Practical Law practice areas, product and marketing.
  • Draft new actionable content for online publication including for current awareness.
  • Conduct research projects and present results with proper analysis and in a succinct manner.
  • With guidance from colleagues, maintain designated content to ensure it remains current, accurate and aligned with customer and business needs.
  • With guidance and supervision from colleagues, respond to queries from customers and support colleagues across editorial, sales, product and marketing to ensure we deliver the best customer experience.
  • Work with Editorial in Europe, the UK and in other jurisdictions to provide appropriate subject matter expert support to external legal industry groups and networks from time to time.
  • Work with Editorial across Global jurisdictions to develop and maintain curated Practical Law resources across Global Practice Areas for a local and global audience.
  • Work with colleagues across Editorial to leverage AI tools and capabilities to reinvent and improve project coordination and workflow efficiency.
  • Support legal‑technology driven Practical Law initiatives and cross‑jurisdictional editorial projects.

You may also be asked to:

  • Partner with senior level positions to write, sub-edit and update legal know-how resources, including practice notes, standard documents and clauses, drafting notes and legal updates in accordance with established writing style and guidance.
  • Monitor current market developments in a specialist practice area.
  • Meet with external customers and industry or sector experts to build understanding of law and practice related to specialist practice areas to inform premium content delivered, build understanding of customer needs, and assess the relevance, quality, and suitability of published information.
  • Under the guidance from senior-level positions, answer and publish questions raised through customer inquiry services in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assist sales team by participating in sales calls and demonstrating services to existing and potential customers.
  • Assist events team with delivering of events relevant to the specialist practice area.
  • Assist the marketing team by participating in webinars and other marketing initiatives.


About You
You’re a fit for this role of Senior Associate Editor if your background includes:

  • At least two years’ Practical Law experience as an Associate Editor including proven ability to assume greater editorial responsibilities.
  • Proven understanding of and familiarity with PL style, best practice guidance and tasks.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills including an ability (with guidance and supervision) to be able to competently write, edit and maintained designated categories of legal know-how resources.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work to deadlines and able to prioritize and manage own workload.
  • Able to assimilate and apply new complex information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant Practical Law and Thomson Reuters applications, including Co-Counsel and TR internal AI tools and capabilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with technology and able to adapt to new technology quickly.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and in a matrixed environment and proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse teams of people who bring different perspectives and lived experiences to the business.


Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience of advising on or studying any field of law in the UK or abroad.
  • Experience working with PL Global or HighQ welcome. 
  • Language ability in German or French a plus.


Education/ Certifications Required:

  • Undergraduate UK Law Degree (or equivalent degree from another jurisdiction); or
  • Undergraduate Degree in a subject other than Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Law (or equivalent).
