Software Development Engineer III, Engineering Enablement

Introduction to the Team
Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

The Engineering Enablement team builds durable systems that reduce cognitive load and improve delivery outcomes at scale. As engineering complexity grows faster than headcount, we create platforms that empower developers to move faster, onboard efficiently, and leverage AI-augmented workflows safely and reliably. This team is the foundation that enables engineering excellence across Expedia Group.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and implement backend services and APIs that power Internal Developer Platform workflows, connecting documentation, templates, automation, and service metadata
  • Build AI-powered capabilities within developer workflows, creating safe and observable integrations with enterprise AI services
  • Develop reusable automation patterns for onboarding and service lifecycle workflows, reducing manual engineering steps through orchestration
  • Own subsystems and platform components end-to-end, from design through deployment to operation
  • Implement strong observability and monitoring practices, participating in incident response and continuous reliability improvements
  • Build integrations that improve documentation discoverability and ensure systems support AI-ingestible, well-structured knowledge
  • Contribute to agent-based workflows that connect knowledge and action, instrumenting AI interactions for telemetry and reliability
  • Independently deliver production-grade implementations with minimal oversight while identifying recurring friction and proposing scalable solutions
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure solutions are scalable and maintainable across multiple engineering organizations

Experience and Qualifications
Required:

  • Strong experience building and operating production-grade services in complex engineering environments
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own system components or subsystems within larger platforms
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (such as Java, Python, Go, or similar)
  • Experience with distributed systems, APIs, and backend development
  • Proven ability to work across teams and deliver results in complex technical environments

Preferred:

  • Experience contributing to an Internal Developer Platform or shared engineering systems
  • Familiarity with AI-augmented workflows, automation systems, or machine learning integrations
  • Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, service templates, or lifecycle tooling
  • Experience building reusable frameworks, extensibility models, or developer productivity tools

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
