Skills & Competencies
  • 10+ years of industry experience within (re)insurance and/or (re)insurance broking
  • Established track record of developing and nurturing deep relationships with insurance industry professionals
  • Strong familiarity with insurance market drivers and trends
  • Broad understanding of competitive landscape for products and services targeted at the P&C underwriting community
  • Experience publishing and delivering thought leadership through research, publications, and speaking engagements (preferred)
  • International experience (preferred)
  • Clear written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to senior audiences
  • Fluency in English (essential); additional European languages (advantageous)
  • Ability to build networks with senior stakeholders (CUOs, CEOs, CROs)
  • Strong business development, relationship-building, and opportunity-sourcing skills
  • Ability to analyze opportunities, evaluate risk/reward trade-offs, and build business cases
  • Strong collaboration skills across sales, product, marketing, and senior leadership
  • Capability to provide coaching, training, and leadership to colleagues on opportunities
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25%
Education
  • Undergraduate/first-level degree (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) required
  • Graduate/second-level degree preferred (e.g., MBA, Master’s, Ph.D.)
Responsibilities
The Business Development Officer will work closely with the Americas insurance sales team to expand Moody’s presence and visibility by creating new connections, developing client relationships, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Understand the insurance client base and market opportunities in the Americas across brokers, insurers, and reinsurers, with a particular focus on the Property & Casualty sector
  • Work with sales, product, and marketing teams to drive market engagement and raise awareness of Moody’s vision, capabilities, and expertise
  • Develop a network of senior stakeholders (CUOs, CEOs, CROs) and connect them with Moody’s executive leadership, including participation in client advisory boards
  • Conduct high volumes of self-initiated meeting activity to broaden touchpoints within client organizations
  • Identify and participate in key industry events that expand Moody’s reach and network
  • Establish strong links with key industry associations
  • Source new opportunities through event participation, client networking, customer profiling, and market intelligence
  • Collaborate with product management to understand latest offerings and relay market feedback
  • Work closely with senior management to highlight specific growth opportunities
  • Provide support, coaching, training, or leadership to colleagues on opportunities where you can make key contributions
  • Refer lead information to sales teams that may lead to sales activities
  • Partner with marketing to develop an outreach plan including PR, conferences, event appearances, speaking engagements, and publication agendas
  • Identify opportunities, analyze risk/reward trade-offs, screen candidates, and build business cases
  • Support Manager with strategies to accelerate GTM success
About the Team
The Business Development Officer is part of Moody’s Americas insurance sales ecosystem, collaborating closely with sales, product, marketing, and senior leadership teams to expand the firm’s visibility, deepen client engagement, and drive growth in the insurance market. The role emphasizes cross-functional partnership, strategic market development, and high-impact external engagement to strengthen Moody’s position across the insurance and reinsurance landscape.

For Canada-based roles only: The anticipated hiring total compensation range (including salary and incentive compensation) for this position is $144,000.00 - $208,800.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, vacation, a retirement savings plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
