Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

The Software Development Engineer III - Full-Stack Developer role is part of the Offers Experience Merchandising Team within our Product & Technology division. The Offers Experience Merchandising team focuses on integrating promotional badges, discount messaging, and shopping banners into the customer shopping experiences including search results and other highly visible experiences, working on high-visibility merchandising experiences and capabilities that help customers discover and understand deals.

In this role, you'll be using AI-powered tools to develop scalable systems that integrate with shopping and experience APIs to deliver configurable, high-visibility features like promotional messaging and the price display. You'll collaborating closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional engineering teams to create compelling merchandising experiences that drive customer engagement.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build, and evolve robust full-stack services and applications, including system design, low-level design, API design, and data modeling to support resilient, high-traffic travel experiences across multiple domains.

  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex features and services, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization in a cloud-based environment.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and peer engineering teams to translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions, ensuring high usability, performance, and reliability.

  • Drive engineering excellence by setting standards for code quality, automated testing, observability, security, and operational readiness, and by mentoring other engineers in full-stack best practices.

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

  • Contribute as a fungible full-stack engineer across multiple product and service areas, selecting appropriate technologies and patterns to solve problems efficiently while managing technical debt.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing backend services and RESTful or GraphQL APIs, including sound data modeling and low-level design, plus building responsive, modern web frontends.

  • Demonstrated ability to own the health, reliability, and performance of services or applications you build, including monitoring, incident participation, and iterative improvement based on data.

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and associated frameworks across the stack, along with familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI productivity tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate development, improve code quality, and drive engineering efficiency.

  • Advanced backend development skills using Kotlin, including designing and maintaining reliable, high‑performance GraphQL services.

  • Experience building Web UI using TypeScript/React, with strong proficiency in component patterns.

  • Track record of improving operational excellence through observability, performance optimization, and resilient design for high-traffic, customer-facing applications.

  • Demonstrated leadership in shaping technical direction for a team or domain, influencing design decisions, reviewing critical code and architecture, and mentoring engineers across the stack.

  • Familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, and data-driven decision making to guide product and technical choices, including evaluating the impact of AI-driven features at scale, and experience applying AI techniques to improve full-stack product experiences.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
