Introduction to Team:
The Front-End Software Development Engineer III role is part of the Offers Experience - Foundations team, which is a key part of our Multi-Channel Shopping organization. Our team owns and operates a critical Node.js Tier-1 application that powers shopping experiences across lodging (both conventional and Vrbo) and ground transport for all EG brands. We’re focused on driving operational excellence in our UI platform—delivering high reliability, performance, scalability, and infrastructure quality for customer-facing travel products. In this role, you will play an integral part in leading foundational technical improvements for our offers/shopping experience.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and maintain modular, accessible, and performant React-based user interfaces that deliver high-quality customer and partner experiences across multiple products and domains.
Translate product and experience requirements into well-structured front-end architectures, including component hierarchies, client-side state management patterns, and integration contracts with back-end APIs and data models.
Apply strong front-end engineering practices—testing, code reviews, documentation, and observability—to ensure reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence of web applications in production.
Collaborate closely with product, design, and back-end engineering to plan and deliver end-to-end features, proactively identifying technical tradeoffs, risks, and opportunities for reuse across React applications.
Use AI tools to explore multiple design options, identify trade‑offs. Apply AI‑assisted tooling to raise engineering excellence in areas such as observability, CI/CD, security, and operational readiness for services you own.
Use AI coding assistants and agents to generate and adapt boilerplate, scaffolding, and repetitive code safely, focusing human effort on complex logic and edge cases.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
5+ years of relevant professional experience.
Proven ownership of significant front-end areas within a service or multi-service product, such as core user flows, shared component libraries, or cross-cutting UI platforms.
Solid proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS, including component composition, state management, API consumption, and client-side performance optimization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong experience building large-scale, high-traffic Node.js services and modular, accessible, and performant React-based user interfaces across complex product ecosystems.
Track record of engineering excellence: clean, maintainable code, robust testing and automation, and secure, performant architectures.
Proven ownership of production reliability, including observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident resolution for mission-critical systems.
Ability to partner effectively across Backend, SRE, infrastructure, and cloud teams to design scalable, cost-efficient solutions and to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence architectural decisions.
Comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., IDE assistants, chat‑based coding agents, or AI‑augmented code review tools) to improve code quality, speed, and innovation while staying accountable for the final outcome.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
