Introduction to the Team:
Expedia Group powers travel for everyone, everywhere. As AI becomes core to how travelers plan, book, and manage their trips, our ability to rapidly explore, prototype, and ship new AI capabilities becomes essential. You will help build the next generation of AI-powered experiences and the underlying patterns that ensure every experience meets a high standard of clarity, accuracy, and trust.
The Core AI Experiences team within our Technology division. The team designs and builds AI powered shopping and servicing experiences such as property experts, AI comparison tools, and conversational planning agents that work like trusted travel assistants, using Expedia data and AI platforms to create intuitive, personalized journeys for travelers at global scale. In this role, you will build reliable, scalable software that turns advanced AI capabilities into seamless customer experiences used by millions of travelers worldwide.
In this role, you will:
Identify and define high-impact traveler problems that can be addressed by AI, translating them into actionable, testable product initiatives.
Be able to rapidly prototype as needed end-to-end AI product experiences by leveraging LLMs and available tools, including prompt and API design, to validate product value and technical feasibility.
Evaluate and operationalize new capabilities from internal and external AI platforms, turning them into concrete product concepts, demos, and proofs-of-concept.
Collaborate with product, data science, and design teams to deliver successful products into production, ensuring robust instrumentation, experimentation, and quality improvements.
Engage in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Address intricate business challenges using disciplined development methodologies, crafting scalable, flexible, and efficient solutions with suitable technologies.
Continuously refine our development and delivery processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
Adapt to changing priorities and business requirements, remaining flexible in approach and willing to learn new technologies and methodologies as needed.
Possess excellent communication skills, effectively conveying ideas to colleagues and stakeholders, while providing thorough explanations of approaches.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
2+ years of experience in software development.
Experience in Agile methodology is essential, with the capacity to work within tight timelines.
Experience developing backend services with proficiency in a development language such as Java or Kotlin.
Experience working with GraphQL.
Familiarity with frontend and backend development frameworks and libraries, such as React.js, Node.js or similar.
Experience with version control systems such as Git.
Technical proficiency working with product and data science/ML teams, including understanding of system design, data flows, and technical tradeoffs.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing and implementing scalable, high-availability services, including thoughtful low-level design, API contracts, and data models that support growth over time.
Hands-on experience with production operations at scale, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and performance tuning for services you build or support.
Demonstrated ability to use data and metrics to inform technical decisions, validate assumptions, and iterate on solutions.
Experience integrating or extending AI/ML‑enabled capabilities in applications, such as leveraging existing models, SDKs, or services in a secure and responsible way.
Growing proficiency with modern engineering practices (for example, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code) and interest in deepening expertise in AI-assisted development and debugging tools.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
