The Senior Disaster Management Researcher & Quality Control (QC) Editor, under the ARIS (Applied Research and Information Sharing) Program at the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM) ensures disaster management publications meet high standards of quality, accuracy, consistency, and strategic clarity for global distribution. The role combines open-source desk research, analytic writing support, and rigorous editorial quality control across multiple product types (e.g., books, fact sheets, case studies, best practices, and research articles).
Working closely with writers, team leads, subject matter experts (SMEs), public affairs, and multimedia/graphics staff, the QC Editor refines messaging, incorporates feedback, and ensures products align to purpose and audience. The position also supports scenario writing and workshop/training materials for exercises and engagements.

At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $113,325 to $188,875.

- Conduct in-depth open-source research and analysis on disaster management topics to support accurate, evidence-based publications.
- Contribute written content as part of a team producing books, fact sheets, case studies, best practices, research articles, and related products.
- Synthesize complex information into clear, audience-appropriate narrative and analytic outputs.
- Perform comprehensive quality reviews of drafts for clarity, accuracy, grammar, style, formatting, and consistency.
- Edit to ensure alignment with publication objectives, intended audiences, and internal style/quality standards.
- Ensure products are clear, error-free, and publication-ready.
- Provide constructive editorial feedback to writers; clarify writing guidelines and style expectations.
- Partner with writers through revision cycles to produce cohesive, polished final drafts.
- Coordinate with the Multimedia and Graphics (MMG) team to meet design and formatting requirements.
- Liaise with CFE-DM branches and staff to access relevant expertise, sources, and country/subject insights.
- Engage external stakeholders as needed to validate accuracy and relevance for the global disaster management community.
- Coordinate SME and external reviewer inputs; adjudicate feedback and recommend improvements to strengthen the final product.
- Manage end-to-end publication workflows from initial drafting through review, approval, and release.
- Maintain production schedules and milestones (drafting, editing, review cycles, QC, and approvals).
- Ensure timely submission to external reviewers, internal QC, and Branch Chief approval processes.
- Prepare approved products for publication across platforms (including the CFE website, ReliefWeb and PreventionWeb).
- Draft accompanying release materials (e.g., social media copy and newsletter submissions).
- Support development of scenario-based exercises and training materials that align to learning objectives and realistic operational conditions.
- Help prepare workshop materials that are engaging, practical, and aligned with disaster management best practices.
- Support event and engagement planning and facilitation (e.g., trainings, exercises, product-focused sessions).
- Travel as required (up to 10%) to support Center engagements and deliverables.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Active Secret Clearance
- 10+ years of experience editing, analyzing, and synthesizing information, including writing/editing research products across multiple formats.
- 2+ years of experience supporting exercise design, facilitation, or training delivery in disaster management contexts.
- 2+ years of experience preparing products specifically for public-facing humanitarian/disaster platforms and multi-channel dissemination.
- 2+ years of experience supporting scenario writing or training/workshop material development.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
- Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
Preferred:
- Experience supporting military, government, or large organizational policy processes.
- Strong ability to digest, synthesize, and clearly communicate complex information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with formatting/publishing tools (e.g., Adobe, Adobe Acrobat Pro, or similar).
- Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., SharePoint).
- Proven ability to work effectively with writers, SMEs, public affairs, and design/graphics teams.
