The Opportunity:
We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.
The Work itself:
- Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability
- Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings
- Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads
- Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions.
- Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology

Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates basic knowledge and asks questions about project requirements.
- Reviews and asks questions about solution strategies that improve the design and functionality of a payment product feature.
- Applies standard processes on the use of front-end programming languages (e.g. HTML, C++, Java) to write code that fulfills website modification requests and technical requirements, under close guidance.
- Works under close guidance from others to support the piloting of new technology capabilities and features that enhance the user website experience across e-commerce products.
- Identifies and advances bugs that threaten website functionality
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technology-engineering discipline. 1-2 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters) in Computer Science, or related technology-engineering discipline
Proficiency in at least one backend language used at scale: Java, Python, Go, Scala, or C++ Solid understanding of core CS fundamentals: Data structures, algorithms, OOP, basic system design
Experience contributing code in Agile/Scrum teams across the full SDLC (design → build → test → deploy) Distributed Systems & Microservices
Hands-on experience developing microservices-based applications
Familiarity with: RESTful APIs (HTTP, JSON) Service-to-service communication
Exposure to scalable, highly available systems, even at smaller scale Understanding of fault tolerance, performance, and reliability (conceptual level is acceptable)
DevOps, Tooling & CI/CD (Strongly Preferred)
Practical experience with: Git (including branching and code reviews)
Maven for builds Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools
Exposure to: Automated testing and deployment pipelines Logging, monitoring, and system availability concepts
Familiarity with: Docker and Kubernetes (basic exposure is sufficient)
Data & Streaming Technologies
Experience using: Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
Exposure to event-driven or streaming systems, especially: Apache Kafka Basic understanding of data analytics and statistical modeling (usage-focused, not research-heavy) Agentic / AI-Assisted Development (Emerging but Valued)
Exposure to AI-powered developer tools, such as: GitHub Copilot Claude Cline Power Automate Ability to use these tools to: Accelerate development Improve code quality
Assist with automation or workflow efficiency (Deep AI modeling experience is not required.) Frontend & Web Exposure (Nice-to-Have)
Basic familiarity with: HTML Modern frontend frameworks (React or Angular) is a plus Experience supporting e‑commerce or web-based user experiences
