Role Overview:The Senior Manager, Technology PMO, is the primary architect and guardian of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for the Medidata Platform. This role manages a team of Program Managers to ensure that cross-functional delivery is not only timely but adheres to a high-standard, repeatable operating model. You will be responsible for refining the "Medidata Way" of building software; optimizing the path from ideation to release through rigorous process design, metric-based governance, and agile excellence.
Key Responsibilities: SDLC Strategy & ModernizationMethodology Ownership: Lead the design and continuous improvement of the SDLC framework (Agile/Scrum/Kanban), ensuring it integrates seamlessly with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and compliance requirements.
Operating Model Refinement: Define the "Definition of Ready" and "Definition of Done" at the organizational level to ensure consistency across all engineering squads.
Tooling Optimization: Partner with Engineering Operations to ensure ALM tools (e.g., Jira, ADO) are configured to enforce SDLC policies and provide real-time visibility into the delivery health.
Platform Operating Rhythm: Drive the Quarterly Planning (PI Planning) process, ensuring that architectural runway and technical debt are prioritized alongside product features.
Quality & Compliance Gates: Establish and monitor governance gates throughout the lifecycle to ensure all releases meet security, architectural, and regulatory standards before hitting production.
Metric-Driven Delivery: Shift the PMO focus from RAG status reporting to DORA metrics (Lead Time, Deployment Frequency, MTTR, and Change Failure Rate) and flow efficiency.
Boundary Management: Act as the primary bridge between Product, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to resolve systemic bottlenecks in the development pipeline.
Conflict Resolution: Mediate high-stakes alignment issues between functional silos, ensuring that the integrity of the SDLC is maintained even under aggressive deadlines.
Team Development: Manage and mentor a team of Program Managers, evolving their skillsets from "administrators" to "SDLC experts" and "Agile coaches."
Culture of Excellence: Foster a mindset of continuous improvement (Kaizen) across the organization, encouraging teams to experiment with and refine their local processes.
Experience: 10+ years in Technical Program Management or Engineering Leadership, with at least 4 years of direct people management in a high-growth SaaS environment.
SDLC Expertise: Deep, practitioner-level knowledge of various SDLC models and how to implement them in regulated (GxP) or highly complex environments.
Systems Thinking: Ability to analyze a complex delivery pipeline, identify the "Theory of Constraints," and implement fixes that improve throughput.
Technical Literacy: Familiarity with DevOps principles, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), and how automated testing impacts the delivery lifecycle.
Advanced Agile: CSP (Certified Scrum Professional), SPC (SAFe Practice Consultant), or PMP-ACP.
As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is $135,000-180,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the California Bay Area is $141,750-189,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the Boston Metro Area is $132,750-177,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in Texas or Ohio is $118,500-158,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in all other locations within the United States is $120,750-161,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
