Team Introduction :
The Platform Team within Expedia’s Fraud & Risk organization is responsible for building and operating the real-time feature store and decisioning ecosystem that powers fraud detection across all customer and supply transactions, including login, profile, booking, and payments.
The team owns the end-to-end data infrastructure, encompassing:
High-throughput ingestion services
Kafka-based stream processing systems
Offline big data pipelines for backfills
It supports multiple feature store paradigms, such as:
Key-value stores
List-based stores
Payload-expression stores
Velocity-based feature systems
In addition, the team manages critical components of the decisioning layer, including:
A rule engine
Decision store
Search services for low-latency decisioning
The platform also integrates asynchronous processing systems using queue technologies like RabbitMQ and Amazon SQS.
As a foundational layer for fraud detection, this platform plays a vital role in enabling machine learning model performance and reliability. It ensures high availability, scalability, and data correctness, while empowering teams to rapidly develop, test, and deploy new features and experiments.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure backend and/or full stack services, including system design (low-level design), API design, and data modeling aligned to Expedia Group engineering standards.
Write clean, testable, and well-documented code, implementing automated tests and participating in code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable solutions.
Collaborate closely with product managers, technical program managers, and other engineers to break down requirements, estimate effort, and deliver features and enhancements on schedule.
Own the operational health of the services you build, including monitoring, alerting, incident participation, and continuous improvement of reliability, performance, and security.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Contribute to technical design discussions across multiple services or components, ensuring solutions are extensible, observable, and can be reused across domains when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
2+ years of relevant professional experience.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and associated frameworks, with experience building RESTful APIs, working with data models, and applying core computer science fundamentals.
Experience owning components or services through the full SDLC, including requirements clarification, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and the ability to safely integrate AI/ML‑enabled solutions into existing services under guidance from senior engineers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing and evolving service architectures, including low-level design, API contracts, and data modeling for systems that operate at scale.
Hands-on experience improving service reliability, performance, and cost efficiency using metrics, logging, alerting, and data-driven analysis of production behavior.
Prior work with distributed systems, cloud-native platforms, or containerized services, including participation in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvements.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to AI/ML‑enabled product features, such as integrating model-driven recommendations or AI-assisted workflows into production services.
Experience experimenting with AI tooling (e.g., code assistants, intelligent monitoring, or workflow automation) to accelerate development while maintaining security, privacy, and quality standards.
