The program launched last year in Africa, and this year expands to China and Taiwan, reflecting Reuters commitment to developing journalistic talent across regions and strengthening coverage from the ground up.

The China Political and General News Correspondent is a part of the Reuters News Accelerator Program.
Location: Beijing
Reuters is seeking a China Political and General News Correspondent to join its Beijing bureau as part of the Reuters News Accelerator Program, covering the political, economic and diplomatic forces shaping the world’s second‑largest economy.
This role offers a front‑row seat to China’s domestic policy shifts and its evolving relationship with the world. From economic decision‑making and trade tensions to diplomacy and governance, you will help global audiences understand how power is exercised in Beijing — and what it means far beyond China’s borders.
Working alongside experienced reporters covering economics, business and international affairs, you will break news, develop deeply reported stories and connect policy decisions to their global impact.
About the Role
As China Political and General News Correspondent, you will:
- Break and develop original stories for Reuters global audience, working closely with colleagues in China and across the Reuters newsroom
- Deliver fast, accurate and insightful coverage of breaking political, economic and diplomatic news
- Track and explain shifts in government policy, international relations and China’s role in global governance
- Develop deeper stories that connect decision‑making in Beijing to consequences for markets, governments and communities worldwide
- Work with text, photo, graphics and video teams to tell stories clearly and creatively for digital and broadcast platforms
- Build deep expertise on a core beat, with opportunities for professional development and future leadership within Reuters
About You
As China Political and General News Correspondent, you will likely have:
- Solid experience as a journalist, with a strong record of breaking news and producing well‑sourced, explanatory reporting
- Sharp news judgement and the ability to identify emerging political and economic trends early
- Experience collaborating across teams, cultures and time zones
- The ability to work calmly under pressure and deliver under tight deadlines
- Confidence using data and social media as reporting tools
- Fluency in Chinese and strong English writing skills
