Skills and Competencies
  • Proven experience in data engineering, including the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and architectures
  • Hands-on expertise with AWS data engineering services such as Amazon S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Lambda, and related cloud-native tools
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data pipeline development, automation, and transformation logic
  • Solid experience with Apache Spark for large-scale, distributed data processing and Spark-based ETL frameworks
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and work across relational and analytical data stores
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability, with experience translating complex data requirements into actionable engineering solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field required; advanced degree preferred
Responsibilities
The Senior Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable data infrastructure and pipelines that power analytics and business intelligence across the organization.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines using Python, Apache Spark, and AWS cloud-native technologies
  • Architect and implement ETL and ELT solutions that support data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple data domains
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to understand data requirements and translate them into reliable engineering solutions
  • Optimize SQL queries and data models to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across analytical platforms
  • Build and maintain AWS data infrastructure including services such as Glue, RDS, S3, Iceberg, Step Functions, EventBridge, Lambda, MSK (Kafka), EKS, and Redshift
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency through the development of monitoring, validation, and alerting frameworks
  • Apply analytical thinking to identify data bottlenecks, propose solutions, and drive continuous improvement across data systems
  • Leverage AI tools to automate workflows, enhance data engineering processes, and contribute to the team’s innovation initiatives
About the Team
Our Data Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining the foundational data infrastructure that powers analytics, risk modeling, and business intelligence across Moody’s. The team drives data reliability, scalability, and innovation by delivering robust pipeline solutions that enable smarter, faster decision-making. By joining the team, you will contribute to cloud-native data engineering, large-scale data processing, and the adoption of AI-driven tools that enhance how data is collected, transformed, and delivered across the enterprise.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $116,500.00 - $169,000.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
