When I was a little girl, I wanted to become a singer just like the most popular singer in the U.S.S.R. at that time. I dreamed about different jobs but my choices diminish when I grew up. I hadn't taken into consideration that some jobs were not available for me because I’m blind.
As time went by, policies and institutions evolved and became more inclusive and accessible but challenges for blind job seekers still exist all over the world. I’ll tell my story to the audience but this talk goes beyond my personal journey.
In this chat, you'll discover:
I had very diverse job experiences throughout my life. I worked as a massage therapist for almost 6 years. I also worked as a writer for a recreating agency and as a manager for a medical company. I held a position as the Head of PR Department at a call center with a 900 staff. Now, I’m the Employment Program Coordinator at the Russian Disability Peoples’ Organization in which I help business companies find employees and interns with physical disability and transform disability awareness into a company culture. At the same time, I’m the Accessibility Team Staff at the second global bank in Russia in which we're working on improving the accessibility of the internet banking, mobile app and ATMs.
In my free time I like hiking, watching movies, traveling. The greatest love of my life is music. And, most importantly, I’m a cat person.
