Question by Kate, Manager

I am 2016 MIT MBA with 15 years of experience deploying technology and have Only been successful in securing interviews below a director level likely due to my time out of market as self-employed consultant. When I get into interviews the question comes up...why this role and not my boss’s job. I respond that coming in at this level gives me more Opportunity to learn from the field. I suspect that earlier opportunities were lost either due to ageism or fear hiring manager would be threatened by me. Any advice on to better position myself?
