I attended a coding bootcamp, and have been looking for work for over a year now. There seems to be a huge discrepancy in the advice from engineers and hiring managers, who will tell you "you don't need a degree" and the entry-level jobs that are actually available now. Almost every entry-level job posting I see is for recent college grads. Every time I attend a Power to Fly job fair, or any other virtual job fair, there are University Recruiters in the room for folks starting their tech careers, but who are unable to speak to entry-level opportunities for career changers from nontraditional backgrounds. How do people like me move past these barriers? Are engineers and hiring managers just unaware of what the entry-level job market is like in 2022? Why is there so much bias in who deserves a shot at getting their start in tech in jobs where the technical requirements are things like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Typescript, React, etc.?
