As the Principal Contractor for the Naval Communications Station Harold E Holt (NCSHEH) located in Exmouth, Western Australia, Raytheon Australia provides services for the maintenance and operation of critical defence infrastructure including the Space Surveillance Telescope, Very Low Frequency (VLF) Communications Transmitter and C-Band Radar Tracking Radar.

To support our mission, Raytheon Australia is currently seeking a motivated Mirror Recoating Facility Technician who is ready to join a diverse, talented and enthusiastic team of professionals in Exmouth, Western Australia.

Reporting to the SST Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating and performing maintenance on the NCSHEH telescope optics recoating facility. This is a one of a kind opportunity for a dedicated self-starter who has a passion for cutting edge technology. The role requirements include operation of a complex deposition system that utilises programmable logic controllers, electronics, high power electronics, cryogenics, vacuum systems, and mechanical systems to produce a quality optical product. A successful candidate will also be expected to complete maintenance on the systems in accordance with their education, discipline, experience and on-site training. Use of various standard and laboratory grade test equipment and instruments will be required along with production of quality data collection and reporting.

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated professional who is keen to establish themselves within the business and drive efficiencies within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operation of a complex semi-automated re-coating facility for large scale optics

  • Operation of laboratory grade equipment to test product quality

  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance

  • A proven ability to operate within the individual IT environment (Microsoft Office Suite)

  • IT software and Tools (WINTEL, Office suite)

  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability with excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Proven ability to work as an individual and as a member of a team

  • The capability to take initiative and operate effectively with limited supervision

  • Maintenance, planning and reporting

  • Equipment calibrations and interpretation of results

  • Technical report writing

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Electronics preferred (electrical, electronics, automation, robotics, large scale optics or similar)

  • Certificate III Electronics (Communications or Control or similar)

  • maybe considered with adequate experience in relevant discipline

  • Defence/Maritime Radar, Combat System, or Complex Communication / Electronic System experience

  • Excellent analytical/fault-finding skills

  • Ability to confidently operate and interpret data from a wide range of test equipment

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance up to Negative Vetting Level 1. (http://www.defence.gov.au/agsva)

  • Flexible work hours with essential requirement to periodically accommodate surge work afterhours to support mission requirements
