Meta is seeking a Visiting Researcher through a short-term contract to join the Meta Linux Kernel team.About the Meta Kernel team: We work with the Linux community to improve the Kernel for both the company and the billions of Linux systems worldwide. Visiting Researcher (PhD), Linux Kernel Scheduling Responsibilities:
  • Perform research and experiments on CPU scheduling on x86 systems
  • Research and implement new, innovative CPU scheduling algorithms
  • By gathering data from experiments, inform the design and development of next-generation scheduling algorithms
  • Publish results and code demonstrating these algorithms
  • Collaborate with the Meta Kernel Scheduling team to get new approaches upstreamed to Linux


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in a technical field, such as Computer Science
  • Past experience developing code for the Linux Kernel
  • Past experience submitting and landing code in the Linux Kernel
  • Knowledge of eBPF, C, and CPU scheduling techniques


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences.
  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
