The Houston Chronicle has an immediate opening for a creative, ambitious video producer to join our Visual Journalism team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for editing a wide range of content, from social videos to enterprise projects. They will work closely with the Visuals staff to create video content that will touch millions of readers in one of the largest, most exciting cities in the country. The Chronicle is a digital-first newsroom, and this player-coach role represents our desire to continue to push the boundaries of traditional visual storytelling. 

What the Video Producer will do: 

  • Edit social, short and long-form video packages that engages readers and reflect the voice of the Chronicle
  • Research, pitch and produce original videos that can be both important and interesting.
  • Help build and maintain our video database of cataloged assets
  • Effectively collaborate with Visual, Audience and Content teams
  • Stay plugged into local/breaking news, with focus on video and social content.
  • Ensure videos have correct tags, title, descriptions and adhere to SEO best practices.

What it will take to be successful: 

  • 1-3 years of experience editing digital media, preferably in a newsroom environment. 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere, motion graphics, audio gathering skills, audience development
  • Well-versed in quickturn social video editing for platforms like TikTok. You know how to take various raw clips and make it truly fascinating.
  • Quick, organized, technical problem solver able to consistently meet deadlines 
  • Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for breaking news and special content opportunities.
  • Social media savvy, can write clean copy, ability/desire to learn digital analytics

Requirements: 

  • This position is full time, with a hybrid work schedule 
  • Weekend and evening work may be required as news warrants
  • The successful candidate must be based in the Houston area or willing to relocate
