Job Details

The Alton Telegraph, in partnership with Hearst Newspapers Midwest, is seeking a Customer Service Representative to join our team in Alton, Illinois. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the satisfaction and retention of our valued subscribers. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional in-person assistance at our Alton office, addressing inquiries, processing payments, and offering support as needed.  Additionally, you will help ensure our long-term success by engaging with current and former subscribers through outbound calls to drive subscription sales. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screen, assist, and respond to customer inquiries and requests in person, over the phone, and via email, including payment processing, subscription modifications, and other service-related tasks.
  • Conduct outbound calls to current and former subscribers, promoting subscription sales and addressing their needs.
  • Actively participate in regular department and team meetings to stay informed about company updates, best practices, and strategies.
  • Perform various in-person office tasks, such as mail processing and general clerical work, to ensure the smooth operation of the Alton office.
  • Schedule - 20 hours/week, five days a week: 4 hours/day or 17.5 hours/week, four days a week: 4 hours/day, 1 day 5.5 hours

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
  • Professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage effectively with the public both in person and over the phone.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with office software and tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, professional email systems, and multi-function printers.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting accounts on both Android and Apple products is a plus.
  • Spanish language proficiency is advantageous but not required.
