Legal Associate - Documentation specialist

Our Legal department provides legal advice and guidance to the firm globally, regarding all aspects of the firm’s business and operations. The group also handles the legal aspects of all firm initiatives, as well as ad-hoc projects.  We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and driven Legal Associate to join the team. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for supporting the firm across all legal functions, with the potential to make an impact quickly. Ideally, you are someone who enjoys autonomy and organization, while working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Principal Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the negotiation of counterparty agreements including ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA and Prime Brokerage agreements
  • Act as a main point of contact for all external and internal stakeholders involved in negotiation and onboarding processes
  • Coordinate internally to resolve any legal issues that might arise during negotiations
  • Collaborate internally to ensure conformity to credit policies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with counterparts at client firms
  • Understand regulatory changes and industry trends and their impact on agreements
  • Provide insights to management on negotiation strategies and counterparty trends
  • Draft amendments to various agreements
  • Maintain various internal summaries (e.g. side letters, ISDAs, repos)
  • Organize and accurately maintain physical and electronic documents and files
  • Coordinate signature execution and processing, tracking and filing of agreements and other documentation
  • Frequent interaction with colleagues in the operations, accounting, and investor relations departments
  • Take ownership of and track projects through entire life cycle

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 plus years of experience in prime brokerage or banking with a focus on counterparty negotiation
  • In-depth knowledge of ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA and Prime Brokerage agreement structures
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent understanding of the regulatory environment and the ability to apply this knowledge to negotiation strategies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational  skills
  • Proven ability to contribute in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle time efficiently
  • Proactive, detail-oriented problem solver with a desire to contribute to Millennium’s reputation and success
  • Good teammate with a strong willingness to participate and help others

Millennium pays a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. The estimated base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
