Date Posted:2024-03-20 Country:United States of America Location:HOR32: Wilsonville, OR 27300 SW Parkway , Wilsonville, OR, 97070-9215 USA Position Role Type:Onsite An opportunity is available in the Portland, Oregon metro area for a talented, motivated, experienced Principal Systems Engineer to design, develop, and test a variety of products including Head-Up Guidance Systems, Enhanced Vision Systems, and innovative new display products geared toward the military, air transport and corporate jet markets. With an emphasis on product quality, we are developing systems which bring improved value to the flight deck through enhanced situational awareness, lower operating minima, and added safety benefits. From being the Head-Up Display provider for the Boeing Dreamliner to the Head-Up Display provider for the Business Jets, Collins Aerospace continues to build trust every day. Our System Engineering team is responsible for head-up guidance and enhanced vision systems. System Engineers define overall functionality of a system in addition to the interfaces with other aircraft systems, and the verification and validation of the correct implementation of these defined characteristics, as well as certification and qualification. System Engineering transitions technologies from research and development into full production rate, qualified products. System Engineering may also be involved with regulatory agencies or interface with major OEMs. Relocation assistance is available. Primary Responsibilities:
- Have strong leadership skills for larger groups
- Manages work-processes, optimization methods, and risk management tools for large or complex projects
- Provide technical/project leadership through all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design and modeling, integrating with hardware and software components, system validation and verification.
- Be the interface between the engineering team to both the end customer and Collins’ Program Management office
- Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level system engineers.
- Coordinate and work with other domains and departments to realize a functional system.
- Work with external customers to document operational scenarios, develop system requirements, define system interfaces, and perform system validation testing.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for pursuit activities, internal design reviews and external customer reviews.
- Manage the cost, schedule, and scope for moderately sized system development activities.
- Identify and implement process, system, and product improvements to enhance performance and improve efficiency.
- Researches, evaluates and recommends investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization’s systems products and services.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
- Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development and certification.
- Experience developing systems that are compliant with ARP-4754, RTCA DO-178, DO-160 and DO-254.
- Experience with ARINC standards: ARINC 429, ARINC 664, ARINC 818 and ARINC 661.
- Experience with safety-critical, real-time, embedded system development
- Experience with JAMA/JIRA and earned value to track project progress
- Experience leading a team of system engineers
- Experience with Matlab is a plus
- Be on a career break of one or more year at time of application
