FlightAware, part of the Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) unit of Collins Aerospace, has built the world's leading aviation software platform, processing over 180+ million incoming messages an hour from over 35,000 individual data feeds—2 terabytes a day and growing! We provide the best, most complete, and most accurate real-time flight-tracking service and are proud to have built a wide variety of successful products on this foundation that have become central to the aviation industry at large. FlightAware is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer for our ADS-B team to build out and improve our next-generation aviation software platform supporting the world’s largest ADS-B data pipeline. This team is responsible for growing, maintaining, and enhancing our world-wide network of Raspberry Pi-based ADS-B receivers, the data pipeline that ingests the flight data they produce, and the suite of web applications built around this flight data. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of the ADS-B software stack. You will solve unique and highly complex problems involving large-scale distributed systems, real-time services, and high-performance APIs.   • YOU will modernize and improve our ADS-B data pipeline that produces FlightAware’s largest real-time data feed.
  • YOU will develop efficient and optimized software solutions tailored for Raspberry Pi hardware.
  • YOU will build innovative applications and products centered around flight data to enrich the experience of our user base of aviation enthusiasts, airports operators, and customers.
  • YOU will investigate technical issues, identify their root causes, and develop fixes within our ADS-B software stack
  • YOU will write high-quality, well-tested software to meet the needs of the business and our customers — some of the largest airlines and airports in the world.
  • YOU will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, customer support, and marketing to deliver on our product and technical roadmap.

Education & Experience:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
Qualifications you must have:
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Experience as a software engineer in at least one programming language (e.g. Python and/or JavaScript, HTML, CSS) building and delivering full stack web applications. Knowledge of Linux and Bash shell scripting.
  • Experience working with distributed systems or real-time data pipelines with demanding reliability and SLA requirements.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database fundamentals.
Skills We Value:
  • Experience working with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes).
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP networking protocols for efficient communication between servers and clients
  • Familiarity with Debian Operating System and package management
  • You are passionate about improving the world’s largest ADS-B network with an obsession with writing elegant, high-quality, well-documented, and highly tested code.
  • You are either a private pilot, looking to pursue your private pilot license, or an aviation enthusiast.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
