Meta is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher through a short-term contract to join the Meta Linux Kernel team.About the Meta Kernel team: We work with the Linux community to improve the Kernel for both the company and the billions of Linux systems worldwide. We do this by engaging with the broader Linux development community.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Linux Kernel (PhD) Responsibilities:
  • Perform research and experiments on CPU scheduling on x86 systems
  • Research and implement new, innovative CPU scheduling algorithms
  • By gathering data from experiments, inform the design and development of next-generation scheduling algorithms
  • Publish results and code demonstrating these algorithms


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Computer Science or a similar field. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Knowledge of eBPF, C, and CPU scheduling techniques
  • Prior experience conducting systems research on Linux
  • Prior experience debugging, tracing, and optimizing Linux-based applications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, trade-offs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
