As our next Embedded Software Engineer, you'll immerse yourself in the intricacies of Strategic Nuclear Deterrence, bringing your acumen to the forefront of innovation and ensuring the efficacy and security of systems that are vital to national defense. You do not have to have previous comms or nuclear experience; we will provide the training and tools to help grow the skills you will need to become a subject matter expert. You will learn from the best and brightest in the comms and nuclear deterrence domain working at Collins Aerospace. What YOU will do:
- YOU will be responsible for providing direct support to stakeholders to answer questions and solve technical issues.
- YOU will work with other team members and domains to maintain and develop software design and code that satisfy customer and certification needs.
- YOU will be responsible for producing high quality software builds in an integrated test environment.
- YOU will interpret/derive software requirements, create/understand UML design diagrams, and code solutions from UML design diagrams.
- YOU will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of bids and proposals, ensuring feasibility and cost-effectiveness. This will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop detailed project specifications, timelines, and budget estimates, aligning with the strategic goals of the organization.
- YOU will oversee engineering efforts across the full software development lifecycle. This role will involve ensuring high-quality and efficient software production.
- YOU will play a crucial role in the professional growth of junior engineers by providing mentorship and guidance. This includes conducting code reviews, sharing best practices in embedded software design and development, and creating opportunities for hands-on learning.
- You will learn and grow knowledge within the Strategic Nuclear Deterrence domain.
- You will gain valuable experience & an opportunity to lead, including roles such as Scrum Master, Product Owner, CAM, and Software Lead.

- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in software design, integration and test utilizing C, C++, and/or assembly, or similar languages.
- Professional experience in embedded systems/software design with real-time operating systems.
- Software development experience in a DoD environment.
- Experience in Agile development methods, including Scrum, automated testing, and continuous integration preferred.
- Familiarity with a breadth of software tools, such as CMake, Eclipse, Jenkins, DOORS, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Git, Subversion, Docker, and requirements management applications.
- Previous professional background in software development lifecycle models and processes for department of defense contracts.
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts for UML model and requirements management with tools such as MagicDraw Cameo, Rhapsody, and Enterprise Architect.
- An Active U.S. government issued security clearance.
