Essential Functions

This attorney in Visa’s Legal and Compliance group will be part of the team that works on Visa’s global M&A transactions and investments in support of Visa’s corporate development and venture investments teams.  This job is based in San Francisco, CA. 

The attorney will work with internal clients to explore M&A and investment opportunities and execute transactions.  The attorney will help lead transaction teams from the legal and compliance groups and work collaboratively with other members of the legal and compliance team and other stakeholders within the company.  In addition, Visa is looking for someone who will:

  • Lead the review, drafting and negotiation of definitive documents and other agreements.
  • Conduct and help coordinate due diligence efforts and support review of materials.
  • Supervise outside counsel and effectively manage legal costs.
  • Review presentations and other materials.
  • Help coordinate and contribute to integration of newly acquired businesses.
  • Design, recommend and implement new processes and procedures to increase team efficiency and organization and the effectiveness of team efforts.
  • Deliver clear and concise business-focused legal counsel.
  • Enjoy untangling and analyzing complex legal issues.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of relevant work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD).
  • Admitted to practice law in the United States and in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a lawyer at an international law firm, with a primary focus on M&A.
  • Experience buying/selling companies in multiple non-U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal instruction and oversight.
  • Passion for excellence.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Experience managing transactions involving regulators a plus but not required.
  • Experience in payments or technology industries a plus but not required.
  • Open to periodic travel.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 201,500 to 262,000 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
