Northrop Grumman is in need of a Director 1 - Mission Assurance and can be based at its Elkton, Maryland or Rocket Center, West Virginia facilities. This role will have leadership and oversight responsibilities at both locations and our facility in Radford, Virginia. The ability to travel a minimum of 25% is required.

Director 1 Mission Assurance (MA) is responsible for overall leadership of the Northrop Grumman's Missile Products Business (MP) Unit's Quality & Mission Assurance organization, including Mission Assurance, Program / Product Quality, Supplier Quality, Quality Management System Compliance, Metrology/Calibration, Software Quality, Non-Destructive Inspection, Audits and Training. The MA Director will lead a high performing team of more than 300 quality professionals responsible to facilitate a continuous improvement culture focused on increasing affordability, process effectiveness and efficiency; and will be responsible for executing, monitoring and reporting on the health of the quality system and the quality of the products and services. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated success leading broad organizations within cost and schedule while achieving a high level of employee engagement. The position requires a solution-based orientation, unwavering ethics and values, and the demonstrated ability to be a trusted partner.

The MA Director is responsible for setting goals of sub organizations integrated with all Business Functional Areas in support of Program and Business Process mission success. The MA Director will plan and execute the MA program using measurable goals and effectiveness criteria in support of the overall business strategy of the MP business unit, division and sector.

The MA Director is an experienced leader, possessing demonstrated expertise in the core areas of strategy, process development, process analysis and performance management, operational excellence, risk management, and overall continuous improvement.

The MA Director has a proven track record of solving complex problems through systematic and objective evaluation of information resulting in effective communication, championing, and implementation of change with a diverse set of internal and external customers and suppliers. Interfaces with the BU Vice-President and Senior Division Directors, DCMA, Customers and Supplier executives. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills combined with a "can do" attitude are essential. The MP Mission Assurance Director reports to the Division Mission Assurance Director with additional reporting responsibilities to the MP Business Unit VP.

This position will have regular presence at both the Rocket Center, WV and Elkton, MD facilities.

Rocket Center, WV is located along the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia and is home to the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL), a government installation operated by Northrop Grumman. Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Manage Business Units QMA organization consisting of Quality and Mission Assurance Managers, along with the QMS, Audits, and Training team members.
  • Responsible for the QMA Strategic Objectives and deployment, aligning Corporate, Sector, Division and Business Unit objectives.
  • Responsible for the execution and implementation of the Quality Management System and AS9100 Certification.
  • Defines and monitors program specifications, quality metrics, internal audit metrics and processes to ensure mission success.
  • Promotes the professional development of the Mission Assurance workforce and fosters a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement.
  • Maintains the highest level of commitment to quality, compliance and internal controls in adherence to company values and ethics.
  • Provides clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the bigger picture, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.
  • Assures compliance in quality, risk management, safety, process improvement, subcontractor and supplier quality, configuration and data management in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Leverages comprehensive metrics, customer and employee feedback to assess program performance and risks and determines resources to ensure mission success.
  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
  • Responsible for the preparation of proposals for the Mission Assurance team.
  • Frequent interface with executives and customer representatives including on-site DCMA representatives concerning projects, scheduling requirements, and contractual clarifications.
  • Thought leader influencing and impacting strategy for the program, quality and Mission Assurance while driving innovative change.
  • Regularly analyzes alternative courses of action for continued program quality.
  • Possess a complete and thorough understanding of all facets of Quality as well as proven leadership, and communication skills across all levels of the company.
  • Establishes and nurtures excellent working relationships with all Customers both internal and external.
  • Responsible for overall Continuous Improvement system and ensuring consistent continuous improvement culture.
  • Monitor and ensure performance goals are achieved, by identifying, communicating, and mitigating risks and opportunities to the business and programs.
  • Establish and manage key project and process indicators / measures to assess project success and process performance.
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and processes are in place to assure the performance and quality of products with conformance to established standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Proactively work with functions and segments to continuously improve our Quality Management System and correct any identified deficiencies in support of our mission and strategies.
  • Evaluate business systems and processes for risk, problem identification, and correction. Ensuring that corrective measures address all stakeholders' voices and meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • Support Return to Green, Failure Analysis, and Corrective Action activities with focus on full resolution and future risk mitigation.
  • Drive culture change toward more proactive risk mitigation, data driven decision making, and continuous improvement mindset.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain ATF Employee Possessor
  • IBA, BS or master's degree in a STEM, Operations/Manufacturing, or Business field
    • Bachelor's Degree with 15 years management or leadership experience
    • Master's degree with 10 years management or leadership experience
  • Experience with DoD contracts
  • Lean-Six Sigma experience
  • Direct experience working and collaborating across multiple Functions, IPTs and Projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the proposal process and BOE creation
  • Demonstrated experience developing, growing teams and shaping a performing culture
  • Risk Management and Analysis
  • AS9100 or Equivalent Quality Management System experience
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills
  • Process Performance Measurement, Analysis, Continuous Improvement
  • Ability to operate and lead in team environment and teach and mentor others to manage in same way - a strong willingness to learn, take initiative and resolve issues.

Salary Range: $164,600 - $247,000
Salary Range 2: $181,900 - $272,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
