Our Impact:Our team is responsible for analytical work and business management functions within the single-family portfolio division as well as advancing climate risk management at Freddie Mac, including:
Analyzing the impact of physical and transition risks from climate change to Freddie Mac’s portfolio of real estate loans.
Designing plausible future scenarios for physical risk from flood, wind, fire, heat, and drought using the best-in-class climate adjusted cat models and downscaled GCM projections.
Evaluating and vetting climate change-related data and data gaps within the enterprise
Implementing a governance framework for climate risks
Facilitating climate change-related research projects throughout the enterprise
Developing and implementing climate change-related disclosures
In collaboration with leaders across the enterprise, our team is focused on executing a framework for Freddie Mac to identify, measure, monitor, control, and report climate-related risks. This includes the crucial task of integrating climate risk into existing risk management structures and ensuring climate risk, including impacts on vulnerable communities, are considered in key business decisions.
Your Impact:As a member of our team, you will have a direct impact on our mission to provide liquidity, stability, affordability, and equity in the largest mortgage market in the world. In this role you will be an integral part of evaluating Freddie Mac’s exposure to climate risk and will be expected to help with or lead:
Support business management functions across the analytical team.
Support multiple concurrent projects related to the identification, assessment, control, monitoring, and reporting of climate related risks;
Find opportunities to develop new strategies to control or mitigate climate related risks, including the impacts on vulnerable communities, as well as how climate related risks may influence key business decisions;
Recommend solutions for addressing gaps and advise on new practices and systems to be established to effectively manage climate risk;
Support multiple business functions in implementing a climate risk management framework;
Work to improve the climate risk management framework with relevant business partners;
Monitor industry advancements and the development of standard processes in the field of climate-risk management by leading organizations to ensure developments are considered in Freddie Mac's framework; and
Contribute to the development of education, awareness, and communication activities to promote integration of climate into risk management practices and deepen institutional knowledge across the company
5 -7 years professional work experience
BS/BA degree in Finance, Economics, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Climate Risk Management or other relevant field
Experience in financial services, housing, mortgage finance,
Experience with climate change related topics such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework or other relevant regulatory compliance
General familiarity with catastrophe and/or climate modeling
General awareness / experience with credit risk, loss forecasting and/or stress testing desired
Knowledge of climate-related physical and transition risks and the transmission channels through which these manifest for financial institutions
Experience identifying patterns and trends in data, developing actionable plans, and effectively communicating findings to a broad audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand
Excellent written and verbal communication, critical thinking, relationship management, and prioritization skills
Strong abilities in project management, organization, data analysis, and report/presentation preparation
GARP SCR, CFA Climate Risk Certificate or equivalent training preferred.
Self-starter, comfortable taking initiative, and navigating new and ambiguous environments
Ability to build and maintain strong strategic partnerships and to influence stakeholders without direct authority
Engaged, collaborative, and supportive teammate
Strong track record of creative problem solving, ownership and accountability
Clear and regular communicator with strong attention to detail
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and multi-task / meet strict timelines
Intellectually curious; ability to quickly digest new industry information, data and/or regulations and derive insights and determine impacts to our business
Highly motivated to rapidly advance the firm's plan to establish a comprehensive climate risk management framework against ambitious timeline
Ability to create executive materials with clear narratives that can be communicated to upper management and a broad audience

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $97,000 - $145,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
