The RN Clinical Quality and Safety Manager is responsible for supporting clinical quality and patient safety as part of the Practice Health and Safety (PHS), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and Clinical Risk Management (CRM) programs. This position splits time to support to PHS (50%), OHS (20%), and CRM (30%).  For those who want to invent the future of health care, here's your opportunity. If you live in Indiana or Ohio, you will have the flexibility to work remotely as you take on some tough challenges.  This position is Monday - Friday, daylight shift.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • PHS (50%):
    • Conducts Practice Health & Safety Assessments and ensures complete and accurate documentation of assessments and corrective action plans
    • Coordinates with practice staff on remediation activities surrounding identified opportunities for improvement, from initiation through completion
    • Provides subject matter expertise and guidance related to patient safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and evidence-based practice
    • Assists in developing and delivering training, education, and targeted support to practice staff as applicable
    • Identifies support opportunities surrounding practice health and safety, clinical compliance, and quality improvement
    • Conducts due diligence assessments at prospective practice sites as directed
    • Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of federal and state regulations, standards, and guidelines
    • Requires up to 25% travel
  • OHS (20%):
    • Integrates occupational health and safety standards with the organization’s mission, vision, values, while aligning all work efforts to the annually established objectives and key results (OKRs)                                 
    • Oversees, manages and implements the development, planning, and execution of continual process improvement efforts, policies and procedures as related to current regulatory standards
    • Establishes and maintains a self-assessment program within the practices/markets to assess compliance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures
    • Develops, manages, and adjusts the EOHS compliance assessment plan and schedules, based upon current business needs in accordance with UHG requirements
    • Provides pre-inspection/assessment preparedness activities for regulatory, UHG/Optum, OSHA, and corporate entities as related to AHN EOHS
    • Tracks and ensures closure of all clinic operations quality related corrective action plans (CAPs) in conjunction with the UHG EOHS team
    • Serves as a clinic operations subject matter expert for occupational health and safety
    • Provides consultative support to Clinical Operations for internal and external regulatory audits
    • Reports EOHS findings (at various levels of detail) to appropriate direct stakeholders and leadership, including recommendations based upon findings
    • Coordinates N95 Fit testing and CPR Training for all new employees
    • Supports Clinical Operations department with employee health databases, maintains complete and accurate employee health records
    • Coordinates the implementation of all employee health initiatives and programs, including N95 fit testing, influenza vaccination, and/or other required vaccinations
    • Responsible for the management of potential blood exposures, employee illnesses and disease outbreaks
    • Participates in infection control education of all employees during orientation and annually thereafter
    • Access reports from Incident Reporting software to evaluate for trends
    • Maintaining secure records at all times. Ensure that all actions comply with relevant guidelines protecting personal and health information (e.g., HIPAA requirements)
  • CRM (30%):
    • Provides subject matter expertise and guidance related to policy inclusion details and risk mitigation strategies
    • Ensures clinical policies are aligned and remain current with current evidence-based research, Optum/National policies and guidelines, and the overarching organizational strategy
    • Ensures complete and accurate documentation of incident investigation, remediation efforts
    • Collaborates effectively with all department experts when drafting policy, investigating incidents, supporting remediation and/or process improvement activities
    • Leads root cause analysis events related to specific incidents
    • Assist in developing and delivering risk-related training, education, and targeted support to clinicians as applicable
    • Conducts data aggregation and analyses to assess performance improvement opportunities and measure improvements
    • Identifies collaborative support opportunities surrounding practice health and safety, occupational health and safety, clinical compliance, risk mitigation, performance excellence, and continuous process improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • Nursing Degree; valid and unrestricted RN License
  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare operations, to include familiarity with federal and state health and safety standards
  • Knowledge of occupational health programs such as monitoring Emergency Preparedness and Response, Environmental Management and Hazardous Materials, Ergonomics, General Safety, Occupational Health, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Proficient in Healthcare Policy writing and associated document management, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode Analysis Tools, and other risk management and quality improvement techniques
  • Proven excellent communication skills with leadership, physicians, patients and staff
  • Proven ability to demonstrate basic levels of statistical analysis including data correlations to determine drivers of risk


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • Experience in occupational health nursing and/or clinical risk management
  • Experience in Infection Control and/or clinical Compliance programs. (Joint Commission, NCQA, AHRQ, OSHA, etc.)
  • Significant experience in a regulatory/compliance role within healthcare operations
  • History of successful results in managing practice health and safety programs and/or initiatives for a large healthcare organization

 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate to achieve project timelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and practices, as needed to accomplish goals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Knowledge of design software and project management software
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, and governmental regulations
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology in order to communicate with physicians, staff, and patients
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, speeches and articles for publication, and local procedure manuals
  • Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations
  • Working knowledge as applies to position of Medicare/Medicaid regulations and procedures, licensing and certification requirements, and other state and federal regulations relating to the health care industry
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practice problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to make independent decisions and delegate responsibility and duties
  • Knowledge of flow charting and basic accounting skills
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to travel; up to 25% of the time
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance due to travel requirements

  • This position is classified as having occupational exposure to blood and other infectious material
