WhatsApp, the world’s fastest growing communication service, is seeking a highly motivated, talented and experienced attorney to join its privacy team and advise the company on a range of privacy, data protection, regulatory, and privacy compliance-related issues and initiatives. The role is a great opportunity for any candidate who is keen to tackle some of today’s toughest and important legal challenges in this cutting-edge area of law. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment.This role is product-focused on WhatsApp’s B2B, monetization and generative AI products, and the ideal candidate will be eager to roll up their sleeves and problem-solve on complex privacy issues, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative compliance solutions.We are looking for a candidate who has an expert understanding of privacy laws and the surrounding regulatory landscape, is a team player and collaborates well, and is able to efficiently and practically weigh and manage risks around privacy. The ideal candidate will have experience advising on state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws (existing and new), particularly in the context of technology products - even better in the messaging space. We are seeking a candidate who has experience advising on cutting-edge products, has strong judgment, communication skills, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies.

Associate General Counsel, Privacy Responsibilities:
  • Apply subject matter expertise and keen strategic judgment in areas of privacy, data protection and security laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR, LGPD and other global privacy laws) and advise on the practical impact of the same
  • Monitor and respond quickly to developments in privacy and privacy-adjacent global laws(i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgments, regulatory guidance, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other lawyers and product/engineering teams to help guide privacy-forward product development
  • Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across Meta's business, product, policy, legal, privacy, communications, security, and other departments


Minimum Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one US state bar
  • 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience
  • Proven experience advising on the practical impact of privacy laws, regulations, enforcement actions or industry guidelines
  • Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills
  • Effective communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-house experience as applicable, in privacy, litigation, regulatory, or product counseling, particularly at a technology, social media or communications / messaging company
  • Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience explaining complex topics, and gaining support and consensus from multiple stakeholders
  • Experience responding to regulatory inquiries
