Job Description

Reporting to the regional Director of Tax LAC, this position will perform a variety of functions with a particular focus on supporting VISA’s Brazilian operation from a tax perspective. Responsibilities will include providing tax support to the Brazilian executive and business leadership and the different teams in the market on new business initiatives, business restructurings, international tax, legislative updates, local tax compliance, managing of tax audits and controversy, and support the growth and development of the rest of the team. 

 

Detail of responsibilities

•    Responsible for all tax matters related to VISA’s operations in Brazil and support Brazilian related global projects as required.
•    Coordinate and sign-off the preparation, review and filing of the direct tax and indirect tax compliance obligations of all VISA entities in Brazil (preparation is outsourced). This includes any audits or controversy related to tax compliance matters. 
•    Assist with maintaining and reviewing the transfer pricing policies and calculations as determined by the transfer pricing team, including overseeing, and supporting the preparation of transfer pricing studies and any updates if needed. Basic understanding of local transfer pricing rules is required. 
•    Assist with VISA’s quarterly and annual tax provisions, including review of tax accounts with local advisor, tax cash forecast, annual budgets, the analysis of potential reserves or uncertain tax positions, and potential valuation allowance requirements. 
•    Provide support in managing tax controversies and audits of VISA entities in Brazil. This includes working with external tax advisors to review tax notices and inquiries received from local tax authorities and preparing the appropriate response to address these notices and inquiries. Additionally, the position should support the management of any open tax controversies.
•    Support negotiation and analysis of tax implications on of incentive agreements, and review of client and vendor contracts (as needed).
•    Provide support to global, regional and local tax planning initiatives (from development and to implementation).
•    Support integration of Brazil into the global tax operation and processes of VISA.
•    Ad hoc tax projects. 
•    Support the growth and development of their direct report. 

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.


Qualifications

- Legal or accounting degree.
- Sound technical knowledge and practical experience dealing with Brazil tax issues for multinational entities.
- Strong accounting and analytical skills with the ability to research and apply tax law.
- Ability to operate independently in a detail oriented and hands-on environment.
- Team oriented, self-motivated, and takes ownership of projects with strong project management skills and sense of urgency. Ability to work with limited supervision and proactive. Results oriented.
- Be able to communicate tax issues clearly and interact effectively with senior executives and global teams through various areas of the VISA organization.
- Support the growth and development of more junior member of the team.
- At least 10 plus years with major public accounting firm, law firm or multinational corporate experience.
- Very good interaction and collaboration with VISA’s tax, controllership and business teams, throughout transition to localize tax functions and day-to-day operations.
- English and Portuguese required (spoken and written). Spanish is a plus.
