Engine Control Systems (ECS) provides complete jet engine controls and accessory packages. From the fuel tank to the igniters, we have the resources and expertise to design, qualify, and manufacture first in class central systems for our aerospace engine customers.
 
ECS is looking for a Principal Project Engineer to join our team to support the Fuel Metering product line. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the coordination of the design, fabrication, procurement, assembly, and testing of the engine control system fuel metering components.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in product development activities including cost estimates, implementation of standard specifications, drawing board layout, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.

  • Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.

  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions as needed.

  • Execute Design Verification Testing and Qualification Testing per customer/regulatory approved test plans.

  • Manage Total Manufacturing Cost (TMC) for product and lead cost reduction initiates on component and/or fuel metering product line.

  • Provide staffing plans using the Collins Manpower Planning Tool (TIGER), including detailed plans through all disciplines and an outsourcing plan, also by discipline, which meet project milestones and budget.

  • Drive and implement Relentless Root Cause & Corrective Action (RRCA) processes, through the use of the applicable ACE tools to ultimately facilitate design integrity improvements and enhanced Engineering Standard Work (ESW) practices.

  • Coordinate the management and closure of all suppliers interfacing related activities including fabrication processing issues, Flight Safety Frozen Process Review Board deliverables and dispositions to supplier Quality Notices (QNs) and requests for information (SRIs)

  • Coordinating all Collins Engineering Change (CR) activities for all drawings & solid models

  • Drive project execution of technical requirements to budget and schedule through implementation of the Program Management System Standard (PMSS) and the IPD Team process

  • Coordinate activities with Collins Supply Chain Management and the Mechanical Engine Systems (MES) Operations team to meet Production yield targets.

  • Lead a cross-functional IPT in all phases of the component life cycle from initial proposal, through design and development and into field investigations and actions

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Equation/physics-based modeling experience.

  • Experience working in MATLAB, or Excel, or equivalent tool for data reduction and visualization.

  • Apply mechanical/hydro mechanical principals to analyze hardware and recommend corrective action.

  • Experience providing engineering investigation support and conduct engineering tests. 

  • Familiarity with basic data analysis, processing, and plotting in MATLAB or equivalent tool preferred. Familiarity in writing test plans/reports.

  • Familiarity with fuel and hydraulic test rigs.

  • Experience working in or leading teams.

  • Experience with project scheduling and budgeting.

  • Good oral and written skills, coupled with a strong grasp of all Microsoft Office products and MS Project tools are preferred.
