Research Scientist – Power Systems, Raleigh – North Carolina USA
We are looking for a research scientist with expertise in Power Systems for our research center in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a scientist in the global Hitachi Energy Research organization, you will propose and lead cutting edge research projects to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology for Hitachi Energy's future products and services.
Your Responsibilities:
- Propose, contribute to and lead R&D projects in power systems and related fields.
- Collaborate with a global team to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers.
- Propose and work on novel ideas and concepts for the next generation of power systems.
- Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
- Collaborate with external partners including universities, startups, and vendors.
- Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.

Your Background
- Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Deep understanding of power system dynamics and associated control mechanisms.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative, and creativity.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Fluency in common programming languages like Python or C++
Requirements (at least one of the following):
- Experience with monitoring and control technologies like SCADA, EMS, or substation automation.
- Experience implementing and evaluating early-stage control concepts (e.g., simulation, HIL)
- Proficiency in power system simulation platform like PSS/E, Power Factory, PSCAD/Opal-RT, MATLAB
- Knowledge of transmission or distribution control room operations
- Techno-economic analysis and optimization
- Knowledge of microservice architecture and utility communication protocols
- Knowledge of Energy Market operations
- Experience with microgrids and active distribution systems
