We are currently seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Site Lead. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the EHS Program for small sites in Alberta and Ontario. Strong knowledge and work experience in multiple EHS specialty areas is a must as this role will oversee and work in all aspects of EHS for the division. This position is critical to the maintenance of our strong EHS culture; the successful candidate will work with individuals and teams to foster employee engagement and drive continuous improvement of our EHS Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight for all EHS programs, ensuring statutory and organizational compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for locations in Alberta and Ontario.
  • Manage EHS program documentation for compliance against legislative requirements and company standards.
  • Collaborate with programs, facilities and other site leads to integrate EHS into work processes and business activities.
  • Implement the EHS Three Year Plan to drive the strategy of the EHS function; turn goals into tactical plans to achieve results.  
  • Monitor and complete all EHS regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support the completion of audits and inspections and present findings to the site EHS Committee.
  • Support the investigation, root cause determination and development of corrective actions for incidents, both injury and environmental.
  • Use the company EHS reporting system (EHS Smart) to maintain EHS information and report on near misses, EHS concerns or injuries.
  • Support the ISO14001 certification for our Ontario facility.
  • Lead the Industrial Hygiene program, ensure routine testing/monitoring, prepare reports and manage employee notifications, as required.
  • Oversee the EHS training program: develop and deliver training.
  • Work with Facilities team to lead sustainability initiatives and report on metrics.
  • Provide EHS subject matter expertise to assist in the design of processes and the procurement of equipment.
  • Classify waste streams, set-up and inspect hazardous waste rooms.
  • Develop and review job hazard assessments as required.
  • Manage the EHS Contractor Safety Approval Program.
  • Participate in program meetings as the EHS representative.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have an Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate or a related Technical Degree or Diploma.
  • 5+ years related work experience.
  • Has or is working towards the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification. 
  • Strong computer skills in applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, NT networking and other communications systems.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of Canadian workplace environmental, health and safety legislation. Knowledge of US standards would be a benefit.   
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of ISO14001 standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
