Data Engineering & Tooling Team (part of Data Products Engineering at Expedia) is responsible for making traveler, partner & supply data accessible, unlocking insights and value! Our Mission is to build and manage the travel industry's premier Data Products and SDKs.

What you will do:

  • Lead the design, implement products and solutions that are highly scalable with high-quality, clean, maintainable, optimized, modular and well-documented code across the technology stack.

  • Crafting API's, developing and testing applications and services to ensure they meet design requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the technical staff and other partners to build and ship outstanding software in a fast-paced environment.

  • Shares new skills and knowledge with team to increase effectiveness.

  • Applying knowledge of software design principles and Agile methodologies and tools.

  • Leading/clarifying code evolution in code reviews.

  • Resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur with help from peers or managers. Follow through on details and drive issues to closure.

  • Assist with supporting production systems (investigate issues and working towards resolution).

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree or Masters in Computer Science and Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 5+ years of software development experience in an enterprise-level engineering environment and application development.

  • Proficient with Object Oriented Programming concepts with a strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Data Engineering (at scale), and Computer Science fundamentals.

  • Experience with Java, Spring framework, Micro-service architecture, Orchestration of containerized applications along with a good grasp of OO design with strong design patterns knowledge.

  • Solid understanding of different API types (e.g. REST, GraphQL, gRPC), access patterns and integration.

  • Prior knowledge and experience of NoSQL databases (e.g. ElasticSearch, ScyllaDB, MongoDB, Dynamo DB).

  • Prior knowledge and experience of batch processing (e.g. Spark, Hive), stream processing (e.g. Kafka, Flink) and cloud-computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services is a plus.

  • Knowledge and understanding of monitoring tools, testing (performance, functional), application debugging and tuning.
