Raytheon is seeking an Air Vehicle Operator to support Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) research and development efforts for operational government customers within the Intelligence Community. This position is responsible for operating multirotor, fixed-wing, and rotorcraft UAS using Ground Control Station (GCS) software and Radio Control transmitter/receivers.
The position works in Tucson and requires travel to remote field locations during test activities.
What You Will Do
- Act as an internal and external UAS pilot.
- Perform UAS test pilot activities, including operating stable and unstable aircraft in varying flight conditions, perform gain tuning, and fly manual launch and recovery profiles for fixed wing UAS.
- Operate GCS software (Piccolo, ArduPilot, UgCS, etc.).
- Coordinate and conduct UAV flight testing, training and demo flights.
- Interact with customers, technical and production staff as required for testing operations.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct testing events.
- Review test objectives and success criteria.
- Expected to Travel 25% of the time.
What You Will Learn
- Manage UAS development and payload integration projects and provide reliable feedback to the program / customer enabling them to make informed decisions regarding the installation, integration checkout and test of system modifications and upgrades.
- Communicate with many levels of program, other contractor and government stakeholders.
- Work to positively guide parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
- Experience with Radio-controlled aircraft.
- An FAA Part 107 certification and/or FAA Medical Certificate.
- Active and transferrable US government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. US citizenship is required, as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Academy of Model Aeronautics membership.
- Operate RC stable and unstable aircraft in stable and unstable flight conditions, perform gain-tuning, launch and recover fixed-wing RC aircraft manually.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move equipment in excess of 50 lbs.
