This position will be based in our EnerSys Advanced Systems (EAS) Space line of business, which will be part of a team delivering international space missions for satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company works with both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial marketplace supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things (IoT) satellite constellations and global positioning and navigation systems. This is a role that can truly be said to impact people across the globe.

Job Purpose

A mechanically adept manufacturing and assembly technician who will complete all mechanical elements of space battery builds to specific instruction and process

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the health and safety of all personnel within the area of responsibility at all times. This includes adherence to risk and COSHH assessments, safety protocols, and ensuring appropriate use of PPE.

Accountable for:

  • Ensuring the safety of products and hardware, including adherence to relevant safety measures.
  • Compliance with company policies and departmental performance processes.
  • Completion of all training provided by the company, including cross-training within other departments.
  • Proper setup and use of equipment in preparation for assembly tasks.
  • Timely and quality delivery of allocated activities and tasks.
  • Accurate completion of all manufacturing documentation during the process.
  • Performing all mechanical tasks, such as spot welding, pull testing, mechanical assembly, and applying materials like Kapton tape, glues, and arathane.
  • Completion of limited battery testing activities following adequate training.
  • Reading, understanding, and following build documentation, including technical drawings (training provided).

Responsible for:

  • Raising material or purchase requests with the Manufacturing Team Leader.
  • Maintaining cleanroom areas in operational and clean condition.
  • Supporting the manufacturing team with mechanical process training (once competent).
  • Supporting updates to the department's QMS and process documentation.
  • Understanding and applying relevant standards and guidelines in manufacturing documents (e.g., BMS processes, ECSS specifications).
  • Supporting the project documentation review process.
  • Assisting in creating and delivering manufacturing mechanical process training and assessing training outcomes.
  • Participating in build process risk reviews and assessments.
  • Supporting non-conformance reviews and applying lessons learned.
  • Additionally, responsible for actively communicating task processes and activities as necessary.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate should be able to understand a manufacturing process and activity
  • It would be beneficial if they are educated in an engineering subject
  • It would be beneficial if they can demonstrate a hands-on approach to mechanical assembly

Knowledge / Experience

  • Expected to have a strong experienced background in assembly operations
  • Ideally but not essential to have two to five years of relevant assembly experience. Ideally in Aerospace manufacturing or engineering environment
  • A commitment to hardware safety as top priority
  • Ideally but not essential to have experience and understanding of basic electrical test equipment functionality
  • A strong attention to detail, logical and proactive approach
  • Strong adherence to following instructions and tasks
  • An ability to work to deadlines
  • A business minded and process driven attitude
  • Proficient skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programs
